Agree, it makes me so sad sometimes seeing her talent. She was far and away the star of the group, it's such a shame that she was a victims of such hideous abuse. But the tragedy has been a catalyst for change, so at least her legacy is so strong to make a difference in Korea.

Nicole and Jiyoung (the one at the end of Damaged Lady that you pointed out) left the group before Mamma Mia and Cupid. Youngji was brought in to replace them. They had a competition show to choose her and everything. The drama of it all

I love Kara. They are my ultimate bias group, but Drama doesn't begin to describe the show Kara Project. Youngji had missed 2 live performances due to a leg injury. the 2nd place finisher Ahn So-jin was left in a very fragile state after the show, having been a trainee with DSP for 5 years, and then having her contract with DSP cancelled where she was told she was not going to be a member of the Girlgroup April due to her Age. she took the work possible actions as a response (T/W S-H) she is a tragic lesson in the worst aspects of what is very much an industry that chews up young trainees and spits them away if it can't or won't make use of them.

Fun fact: before YG, JYP, HYBE is a thing, DSP is the rival of SM and they are very obvious about that. DSP would debut groups to compete with SM, Sechskies vs H.O.T., Fin.K.L vs S.E.S., SS501 vs DBSK, KARA vs SNSD. Together they were the Big2.

i just adored Kara's energy in 2nd gen. They fulfilled this perfect mix of cutesy, sexy, high energy, addictive happy combo yet still mature that most other groups didn't go for in 2nd gen IMO. Most other girl groups did a hard hitting girl crush or sexy concept or super cute/aegyo concept. So happy you are checking them out and watching you discovering them

You should listen, 'Mister' (their most popular song) was originally a b-side song but it became very popular so it only has a Japanese MV KARA also participated in the program 'Killing Voice'. Lupin is in reference and inspired by the Japanese anime of the same name. It's about a thief that wears a suit and uses a cane. If you read the translation of the lyrics of the song, they talk about stealing your heart, ruling the world, and taking back what's rightfully theirs. At least that's what I can remember... hahaha... Regarding their sound, it's always been a very retro pop, Euro pop, 80's syncthed pop inspired. You should watch the videos in chronological order to see their growth and progression in their sound musically. But also their group transition from debut as 4, their signature 5, the departure of members to be 4, and the reunion.

The reason Mama Mia(and Cupid) is the 4 member line up is because Nicole and Jiyoung terminated their contracts via a lawsuit due to unfair wages. I'm not sure if you know how massively huge Kara was during their peak in 2nd gen. The sheer albums sales and the fact they could sell out venues in Japan. Basically DSP worked them nonstop. They had a "reality" show to find a new member which is how Youngji joined. I felt bad for her, joining an established group gives unwarranted hate from netizens, but it was even worse because how insanely popular Kara was.
