I was 41 years old when I saw this film. At that point, my dad had already been gone for 18 years. At the end, when they start playing catch, I started sobbing in my seat in the theater, my wife just put her hand on my back. Every man I know who has seen this had a somewhat similar reaction...

I was 14 when this came out. For a brief time, my dad played catch with me, around 11-12 years old. Then my dad’s lifelong alcoholism took over, and he never wanted to spend time with me anymore. We never had much of a relationship after that, and he finally died a few months ago. This movie has moved me deeply ever since it came out. Thanks for reacting to this film. You guys are great.

My dad died a few years after this came out when I was 16. We used to watch baseball all the time, played catch when he was barbecuing, and he coach my teams. I've watched this film countless times and I still cry every time I watch it, I feel it so much.

My dad use to take me to Braves games quite often in the 60's and 70's. He was also my little league coach for two teams. He passed in 1999 and I've always said if I could do one thing, it would be to play catch with my dad again. My hope is that I'll get that chance when I pass.

This was the first movie I ever saw that made my dad and my brother cry to. I was older when I fully appreciated it. It is about that rebellion everyone experiences against a parent (possibly they were close to) and then they wishes they could go back to that innocence from before. Everyone goes through it. But we all would go back, would apologize for that transgression. It could be a parent, mentor, friend, family... but we all wish we could take back the word, the deed, whatever because you lost your innocence.

This is my favorite movie of all time. The ending always makes me cry. Moonlight Graham was a real person. He played one game, then became a doctor. In the book (called "Shoeless Joe"), the character of Terrence Mann is JD Salinger, the notoriously reclusive writer who wrote "Catcher in the Rye".

Archibald Moonlight Graham was a real player who only got to play one game, and never batted in the major leagues. In the movie it said he played in 1922, in real life he played in 1905 with the New York Giants. This might be the most sentimental movie ever made. It's about hope, faith, and redemption. Mixed with magical realism, but even more it's about sons and fathers. When Ray says, "Maybe this is heaven", my heart explodes. But to me thee line in the movie is when Annie tells Ray, "You believed in the magic, AND IT HAPPENED. Isn't that enough?" It's a line mixed with hope, and sadness. It can never be enough, however. For rooted in hope are our dreams, and dreams are FOREVER, even after we're gone............ because they come from our hearts.

The MLB game you watched last year (August 12th, 2021) was setup near the original 'Field of Dreams' near Dyersville Iowa. It was the first MLB game played in the state of Iowa. The 2022 game will be on August 11th, 2022. You can find several KZbin videos showing highlights of last year's game. Some of the YT videos show the original ball field and the house from the movie located near the new field where the MLB game was played at.

They built a regulation MLB field. They are currently in the process of building out infrastructure to host the Field of Dreams game regularly. In the meantime, the game is going to be played this summer at the Oldest surviving Negro Leagues park.

Also "The Natural" ... back in the day in the 1930s, the NY Yankees tried to recruit my mother's father (for their farm team) ... he didn't want to leave his family behind in small town Kansas, so he declined. The relatives used to play sand-lot baseball just outside their ethnic cemetery every Memorial Day. A lost world, like Jurassic Park. My mom has gone on to be with her folks, I bet she watches the men play baseball every Memorial Day ;-) This was Burt Lancaster's last movie role (famous actor). I first saw this movie, after my dad passed on, I play catch with him every time I see this, just like when I was a boy.

The movie takes place in the 80s not the 60s. in 1919 the 8 players on the Chicago White Sox took money to throw the world series. The baseball team hired a commissioner, and he banned them from baseball forever. A great movie about this is 8 Men Out. In the movie Joe Jackson appears then his other 7 banned team mates and then other famous players from the early 20th century. Fantastic reaction too. Have to admit I cried too. lol

Originally, the farmer who owns the land plowed under the field as soon as filming wrap and his wife got SO MAD AT HIM lol. They rebuilt it and, as you said, it stands to this day

Over the years, there were different solutions until finally the whole property was saved. In a very real sense, this movie came true - people really did drive to the field to play catch.

Was 16. Had a friend that moved to the woods from the hood. Got a motorcycle as a teen and wenr to visit him after years. He was showing me his backyard which was huge compared to my postage stamp. I kept going and he silently followed, so I thought it was still his yard. Next thing, we're in corn taller than us. Trying to find a way out was tough. Sun was dead center time of day. Property owner was an ol salty man. Blew 2 shots over the shaking stalks. We got quiet and separate and finally found our way our when the moon made shine. Bottom line, being lost in a tall corn field is just like life until a light from above helps you .... Well done on this reaction guys!

"Field of Dreams": A tale about Baseball, faith, magic, and Family. One family movie night, we went to the ex-Cinerama theater to see this movie. (It was close to Father's Day, also.) "If you build it he will come," the first hint of magic in the corn field.;) "Is this Heaven? Yes, it's Iowa." 32:00 And so it has come to pass. This baseball field is not only a movie site, but a place for people to work out family problems, play a game, or just soak up the atmosphere. It was built, and they have been coming since 1989.

@@RKnights Cash in? He wasn't trying to profit, he was trying to keep them from losing it to the bank. He said his partners would offer rain market value. If he was trying to cash in on it, he would have offered them less than market value because he knew they literally had no other choice. He was also watching his sister and brother-in-law go insane (in his eyes). They were seeing people who aren't there and purposely killed their farm essentially. He was probably very concerned and worried. We watched the movie from their viewpoint... image it from his. As for the girl, yeah, that wasn't great, but it's not like he threw he off in a fit of rage. He was just very very upset because again, he was watching his family that he cares about throw away their livelihood willingly and refusing his help...

What a great reaction gents!! Glad you all embraced the 'magic' that this movie brings! I've seen this dozens of times - definitely in my top 10 of all time - and it's because of that magic. The writing, the acting, the humour, the emotion, the heart!! I break down in tears every time he calls out 'dad'. I've had/have a great relationship with my dad - afternoons/nights playing catch, hockey, soccer...but seeing this when I was 11 made me appreciate that time with him! They say nothing is more expensive than regret - and this story exemplifies it, and presents the question 'what if you had a second chance?' Ray had the opportunity, embraced it, and was able to mend a wound with his father. I'm sure there are many that would 'go the distance' for that chance! Cheers!

Kevin Costner was a star baseball player at Villa Park High School in Orange County California, then he went to Cal State Fullerton and gave up baseball for acting. He strongly supports Cal State Fullerton baseball and can still be found in the stands during their games.

Those eight players who came out on the field after the intro of Shoeless Joe were the White Sox who threw the 1919 World Series; they were banned for life from ever playing baseball again. The movie "Eight Men Out" tells the story of the 1919 series and the subsequent trial. Another baseball movie that's not shown much nowadays is "Pride of the Yankees," a biographical picture about Lou Gehrig (played by Gary Cooper).

I was very lucky....my dad was my best friend, and we were always super-close. Baseball was the thing we did together most. He died in 2003 at 64 due to cancer, and he never had the chance to see his granddaughter grow up. His passing was the saddest moment of my life. Every time I see this film, it captures how much it meant to me to be able to play ball with my dad, and how much that time we spent together meant. I think of him every day, and what I wouldn't give to be able to have one last catch with him. Enjoy your life and take pleasure in every moment.

I was crying over the end of this movie even before last year. (My Dad, named John, played little league and high school ball, and almost got a desk job with the White Sox back in the 70's. The last game he saw with all his faculties MAY have been the Field of Dreams game before the brain tumor went into full gear. He passed away a year ago on the 27th.)

This movie was all about Ray being able to have the chance at one more moment with his father which he got. Terrance Mann (James Earl Jones) was already dead and just needed to be at peace. So was Archie. All of them were tied to his father in one way or another. Archie more for his father's attitude about baseball when he was young. With baseball in the background (marking time), Field of Dreams is my all time favorite movie.

I love it how 4 grown a$$ men cried over a game of catch. I remember crying over this movie work my dad, who did not cry in my dad's grandparents' funeral. He was 70 and told me, mijo people are born. People die. That's what happens. What we can do is teach people to be better. I asked him, how do you want to be buried, he said i am 6"'3'. It would be cheaper just to bury me standing in the back yard. The only time he cried was in church.

Most people have some regrets, if only minor. Even if the other person doesn't think so, we could always find something nice to do for that person. I don't even care for baseball, but I totally get this movie. And I suspect it is a harder pill to swallow for men than women. A lot of guys can't remember the last time we had a catch with our dads. I'm going to be 40 right away and I would treasure the opportunity to do just that.

Field of Dreams embodies something about baseball that sets it apart from other sports. Football's highest value is winning; basketball's highest value is scoring; but baseball's highest value is PLAYING. That's how a movie like this makes sense for baseball, but wouldn't make sense for anything else. Football or basketball are usually an attempt to escape from something, and even soccer in the countries that obsess on it is mostly just because it has the lowest possible cost. But baseball is played because of what it is, not what it leads to or away from, and not because of anything practical. It's very idealistic.

I think Tom Hanks said there was no crying in baseball. Well…..I don’t know about that. It’s a great movie. It speaks of the value we have in our institutions. Nostalgia for a time gone by. It’s relateable to most any generation. And look at all the people who were healed in their souls in this movie. Everybody had some form of redemption. Some were given a clean slate and able to move on either in the real world or the other.

My dad died in 1988. I didn’t see this in the theater, thankfully, because I was still pretty raw even a year later. I do remember listen to a Kansas City Royals game on the radio where the announcers, Fred White and Denny Mathews, had just seen the movie and talked about it quite a bit. (Radio announcers need to be able to fill during slow games) They clearly loved the game but the most they said was that it wasn’t really about baseball but it used baseball as a vehicle to tell the story. I rented it and watched it alone and it broke me. The actual field has been a tourist stop for years and I’ve been there. They built a new field to play the MLB game.

Just a correction guys about the field. The original field in the movie, has existed since it was built for the movie. The "field" you talk about recently was a MLB level temporary stadium that can hold 8000 people. Locals and the state are trying to raise 50 Million + to make it at least a minor league or better stadium :)

I've seen this movie countless times. Hell, my screen name is based on it. Never gets old for me and always hits me in the feels. And I think that's at least partially because the film doesn't try to answer every question that might arise about how all the magical elements of the film work. And in doing so, the mysterious sense of wonder you get watching the film stays intact no matter how many times you view it. And like you guys said, the points that actually matter about the story do get addressed. One quick little suggestion: be careful with the mic levels. I really enjoyed your guys reactions and discussion, and enjoyed how you chose to edit down the film etc. All of that was really strong. But I had a bit of trouble watching this because I found myelf having to adjust the volume back and forth when the mic levels would spike. I think it was mainly Alex's mic because he seemed to be sitting a lot closer to it than the rest of you. But other than that, great reaction guys.

There are so many good baseball movies. There's "Eight Men Out" that tells the story of the Chicago Black Sox throwing the World Series. There's another great Costner baseball movie called "Bull "Durham" about AAA ball. "The Natural" is a great Robert Redford baseball movie. "A League Of Their Own" is a great movie about the women's professional baseball league during World War II. It's got lot's of big stars in it. "Major League" is a comedy about a really bad MLB team also with a lot of stars in it.
