Wale went to Korea to record the video. To this day he speaks highly of RM. I think it’s testimony of the character of RM that someone would take that long flight to work with him. Just like other artists who have collaborated with the band.

CHANGE is a great great track.. I love the lyrics and the deliveries... Before giving to you more information about this track, Wale is a famous rapper for his lyrics and commitments and he is highley respected in the rap scene, and we don't pronounce his name as "whale" but more by saying "Wolé" or "Wolae" because he is nigerian american. “Change” is a progressive, politically engaged song that challenges similar problems of both Eastern and Western cultures, such as lack of faith in the government, failing education system, racism and cyberbulling. At the same time, both artists express hopes for better tomorrow for the next generations that the title changes can bring. The song is the first collaboration between South Korean (RM) and Nigerian-American (Wale). The single was released via RM’s record label official KZbin channel and his group official Soundcloud for free. The international collaboration was confirmed in early March 2017 via Wale’s official Instagram, when he visited South Korea to record the song. Ok let dive more deep in some lyrics: OH, FUCK THE SCOOL ALL WE GOT IS MAD TEACHERS AND SOME VISIBLE CLASSES DIVIDED SPACES, AND FOREVER-LASTIN' STRESSES RM is cursing the Korean school system which classifies students, alienating them from each other and forcing them into unnecessary hardships. RM has talked about this before and has cursed the education system quite a lot in the past. In BTS' pre-debut track “학교의눈물 (School of Tears),” he and SUGA talk about the difficulties of students, the social injustices they’re forced to experience, and the violence perpetrated by hierarchies created by adults and perpetuated by bystander students. In their tracks “N.O” and “No More Dream,” they talk about students being forced into mere numbers and classifications. In “뱁새 (Silver Spoon),” they talk about superiors using violence, grown-ups belittling the youth and changing these rules. KILL PEOPLE WITH FINGERS ON TWITTER MORE THAN A GUN, MORE THAN A KNIFE THE TIP OF YOUR TONGUE JUST GLITTER Rap Monster’s likely alluding to BTS' debut concert in the summer of 2015, when someone tweeted a threat stating they were bringing a gun to the show. BTS took the threat seriously and cut the show short. This may also be a reference to Drake’s line from his 2015 Meek Mill diss track “Back to Back”: "Yeah, trigger fingers turn to twitter fingers" PRAY A LOT AND MAYBE GOD GIVE YOU SAINT LAURENT Wale uses some wordplay here. A saint is a term used for a person who is recognized as having an exceptional degree of holiness or likeness to God. Since they are held in such high esteem, they’re also fervent prayers. Wale is describing the designer type fashion known as Saint Laurent., claiming that praying to God as much as a real saint would, might provide you with luxury. WHEN IT'S TIME TO VOTE, THE PEOPLE TURN TO MANNEQUINS CHALLENGE THAT This is likely referencing the 2016 US Presidential Election, where voter turnout dropped to 58%, allegedly a record low in almost 20 years. The Mannequin Challenge was an internet challenge that went viral in 2016. Soundtracked by Rae Sremmurd’s hit song “Black Beatles,” the challenge involved a group of people standing completely still like mannequins, while another person filmed them. Wale compares their immobility to voters' inability to make it to the polls. NAMJOON I'M THE MAN TOO RM’s real name is 김남준 (Kim Nam Joon), where Namjoon is his first name and Kim is a surname. Wale also tried to use here the word play-the Korean syllable 남 (nam) can be translated into English as a ‘man.’ However, Wale probably did not know that the 남 (nam) in RM’s name derives from Chinese 南 (‘south’ in English) and not from 男 (‘man’ in English). I'M OUT IN CHEVY CHASE THE TEACHERS USED TO LAMPOON Wale grew up in the Washington DC area his whole life. Once he turned 10 years of age his family moved to Montgomery county MD, where Wale attended school in Chevy Chase. Chevy Chase Maryland is known for being a very wealthy neighborhood, where those who don’t have a lot can be lampooned - criticized made fun of for having less. The line is also a wordplay on actor Chevy Chase, who starred in the National Lampoon’s Vacation film series. I SING SONGS, HAIKUS OVER RAP TUNES HIGH IQ A haiku is a three-line poem where the first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables, and the third line has five syllable line. These lines of lyrics actually do form a haiku. RM has an IQ of 148, which is considered genius or near genius level. He ranked in the top 1.3% in South Korea’s preparatory university entrance exams. LOOKIN' FOR A SONG HYE KYO, HEY CUUUTIE Song Hye Kyo is a popular South Korean actress whose popularity rose through her role in the South Korean dramas, Full House and Descendants of the Sun. She is considered one of South Korea’s most beautiful women. GOT NO FAITH IN THE GOVERNMENT THAT'S WHY WE NEED EACH OTHER, HEY LAUGHIN' TO KEEP FROM CRYIN' Donald Trump’s presidency and Republican control in Congress has increased political division and turmoil throughout the nation. Many have an unfavorable view of the country’s direction, with Donald Trump’s popularity reaching historic lows. Although Wale has an unfavorable view of Donald Trump, he has hope that it will unite people in effort to create change. This shows similarities to the track “Smile” , where Wale suggests everyone remain positive despite events that unfold in society. With Democrats and Republicans in fierce arguments over key issues, such as Obamacare and cuts in government spending to social programs, everyone should be able to have faith and make the best out of the worst. FOLARIN'S A RAP MONSTER 'Folarin’ is one of Wale’s pseudonyms, and also the title of his 2012 mixtape. In late 2016, Wale released a song called “Folarin Like (Nas is Like Freestyle),” which features a line shouting out RM’s group, BTS: "Foreign features from South Korea BTS be the shit, we about to see it" RM debuted with BTS in 2013 under the stage name ‘Rap Monster.’ Since 2017 he goes by the name RM because it fits him better as an adult. BTS IS THE ARMY BTS is RM’s group act. The name is an acronym that stands for ‘Bangtan Sonyeondan’ (방탄소년단 in Korean). BTS is well known as a group that has transcended culture-At that time, they’ve broken records on Billboard’s main charts, including topping the Social 50 Chart for over 20 non-consecutive weeks. They even won the Mnet Asian Music Awards' coveted 2016 Artist of the Year award after they released their wildly successful album Wings that same year. ‘ARMY,’ which stands for ‘Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth,’ is BTS' name for their fanbase. BTS debuted with a focus on uplifting the youth and continue this theme in all of their work. TAKE A TRIP TO SOUTH KOREA WITH SOME DC OGs On March 4, 2017, Wale visited Seoul, South Korea to record this song with RM. ‘DC OGs,’ which means DC original gangsters, indicates some of his friends from his native city, Washington D.C., were also on the trip with him. HATED BY ALT-RIGHTS AND RACIST POLICE SAY, WOOP WOOP, MAN, 12 COMIN' THEY MAKE THEM KIDS REALLY FREEZE, WHEN THEY SAY, "FREEZE!" FREEZE! The Alt-Right of the United States feel they have a projected voice since the election of Donald Trump as president. 2016 could be deemed the year of police killings based on numbers and the social media frenzy that seemingly never ended. All of this has furthered the scare for people of different colors and creeds because when they see the red and blue lights flash, they don’t know if that’s the last thing they’ll ever see. ‘12’ refers to the drug enforcement officers that deals with narcotics. The name most likely origins from the ‘60s/'70s tv show, Adam-12. MOONZ, PRAYIN' FOR BETTER DAYS FOR YOU AND I Moonz are Wale’s fans, named after his daughter Zyla Moon, he explained that name as: "Fans who illuminate in the face of darkness when it’s called for" Here, he could be referring to both his daughter and his fans, people coming from the current generation, who he envisions as people who will move society forward and change the current state of the nation. I BELIEVE THAT REAL CHANGE LIES IN THE MIRROR (YEAH) Wale puts his twist on Michael Jackson’s lines from his 1988 song, “Man In The Mirror”: "I’m starting with the man in the mirror I’m asking him to change his ways" -Meaning that in order to change the world, people must change themselves. Thank you for the reaction.

I’m sure you know by now, but wale’s name is two syllables, wa - leh. I believe he actually flew to korea to meet Namjoon and film this mv, which was really cool! He also spoke very highly of namjoon in interviews. For future reference, never ever use captions that say “autogenerated” - that just means that the program is trying to find sounds that could theoretically make up words and often auto translates that nobsense into another language which makes it even worse 😅 Please only use cc if it says “English” and nothing else, that means they were made by humans. Change is a great song, really underrated! For more songs, I recommend RM’s song moonchild (very different vibe, but really beautiful)

I recommend you Mono, it's Namjoon's second mixtape, it's a beautiful journey to listen to all the songs together. My favorite Namjoon songs are Intro: Persona ( I think that song has the best lyrics), Moonchild (this song is so f%cking good) and Uhgood (I cry every time I listen to this song)

I agree! Mono is such a good album, the way its structured just flows so well. And each song is beloved for its own right. My personal favourite is everythingoes as it’s a balm for the soul during rough times. But the whole of Mono feels like Namjoon is taking you on a personal journey, which is probably why so many relate so much to it.

This song is what got this 72 year ol' lady to really listen to what Rap has to offer. Imagine, RM was about 20 when he was recognized by well known rappers who wanted to work with him. Why I like this: I believe the entire world is interconnected politically, socially, and economically. The youth of today grasp this and yes, the world is going to change. It has been a long, difficult road so far, but step by step we slog forward. I had high hopes in the 60's we'd be further along, but I have witnessed change. And this song tells me change will keep coming.

I knew you would like it! this is one of my favorite songs by Namjoon, and of course, Wale did an excellent job too. In this song they both criticize the world, but Namjoon focuses on South Korea's reality and Wale focuses on America's reality, especially as a black man. This song sounds nice, has great lyrics and meanings and everything was perfectly executed. I LOVE this underrated masterpiece.

This is one of my favorite RM songs and one do the many fun collabs he did. The fact he did this so many years ago and still so relevant. Wale is one of the top socio political rappers around known for his word play and topics. We need Change but the right kind. Everything about this from the MV to the topic are just top top tier to me and it’s way way way too underrated by BTS standards. If you like this you might also like his song with Tiger JK (one of South Koreas bigger rap groups who was one of RMs big inspirations).

Moonz are Wale's fans, if you didn't already figure that out. ;-) I love that Wale gave a call to action to ARMY and Moonz to make change. I thought this could have been the anthem of the Black Lives Matter movement. Some of my favorite lines: RM: "If hope is a taste, what is yours? What you eat all day?" This is just so freakin' poetic and wistful. As I get older and more bitter, I believe that people's hope is avoidance and forgetfulness. Wale: "Got no faith in the government, that's why we need each other ....... ...I'ma keep the piece until I see some more peace" That subtle wordplay that brings with it the chilling idea that things are so messed up at this point of human evolution that we still have to be prepared to be brutal to keep each other safe.

My knowledge or rap up until a few years ago was virtually non-existent. I knew the insanely popular artists as a teen (Dr. Dre, Eminem, Outkast, WuTang, Coolio) but any artist not on MTV VMA rotation I never knew much of. I'm actually suprised that you don't know Wale. But of course you don't have to, I mean it not like people have to know all rappers there 😋 So I don't know why I was suprised but yeah... Wale fanbase is called Moonz and he also two times say it in this song so not only ARMY had their moment. (for example at the end) I don't listen to his music but I know about him... Hmm I actually think that song have massage of hope but they don't say that it will be better, but it will be different, world changing. "We" - people can change too, be better but it is up to us, like with line about mirror and voting etc. It up to as if this change will be better or not but change will be come. With music video I feel always when watching it that it dosen't show better but different options, how I say it hmmm it is my interpretation...: Like couple you have white and black person togheter but then next scene they are not together but in VR next to earch other, so it is better in sens people don't care about race, there are no bariers, but it worse bc people life in virtual world more, then asian man with tattoos first he is doing them, hides a little, and then we see he is all in them even on face and proud and stand strong, in a lot asian countries tattoos are seen as a gang thing only, or bad background, etc. Of course not only in Asia, hmm but now tattoss are very popular, but we still have to remember when this song come out... So again it like showing that it is up to us how we look at people and world. Then a school girl that is studing next time she is around monitors bc now we more learn from internet, computers, etc, then books. All this things are not primary bad or good, all depends on what we do with it. Then office guy next time he is tied to chair with cabels it can be two things one simply workaholic that tied himself in his work or like companies use people, that they are almost tied to desks. And last image man with mics he looks like he have something to say at first but then he is smoking and have a lot of money and this big boss adittude, it can be look at politics, but also at big CEOs or businessmans or people that own a lot of things and are more powerful then average people might think. I never know how to look at cleaning lady.... Bc its look like she is puting more dirt then really cleaning and she have smirk. Hmm But it is my look at this video, it say we need to changes, world gonna change for sure but how it up to us, so for me thid song is not positive or negative or optimistic, it gives hope but also tells hard reality, is shows simple facts for us to look and think and maybe change. "Strange" from Agust D mixtape D-2 is similar and have RM as guest.

Hey Bryan 👋 Great video. I've never heard this full song before and loved it also, I love the message and that ARMY shout out 💜 You like when music has a little jazz or piano....well believe me BTS has definetly got you covered there 😁 For example. House of cards (vocal line), 134340 (all members), Stigma (solo by V), Rain (all members), Still With You (Jungkook Solo on Soundcloud), Trivia: Love (RM Solo), Outro: Ego (J-hope Solo), First Love (Suga solo), Love is Not Over (all members), Coffee (all members). Given you've mentioned you like a bit of Jazz sound I think your first vocal line song should definetly be House of Cards. 😁🎵💜 RM favourites. Choosing favourites is always hard for me but I love Trivia: Love amazing sound and genius lyricism, and Moonchild (from Mono) but I love all the songs from Mono so essentially the Mono album as a whole and Bicycle which is a solo song he released on Soundcloud last year, such a chill relaxing song.👌😌 Oh I also want to say RM's voice and rap complements female vocalists so well. So here are 2 collabs he has done with females I love and recommend which would be great reactions for you for something different. Winter Flower by Younha Feat. RM This is a beautiful song about mental health. RM has writing credits on the song along with Younha. There is an Official MV with English subs on the channel 1theK. Also a lyric page on doolset. The MV has a beautiful animation. Umbrella by RM and Yuiko This is a cover song which was performed on a Korean TV show. The original song was by Epik High Feat. Younha - and I know others have recommended Epik High to you as another artist. So no it's not the Rhianna song 😉. If you want to to listen to the original which is also great there is an MV for that. For further context the performance was in 2016 on a Korean competition show called Duet Song Festival. Apparently the format is a celebrity artist/ singer chooses someone from a group of amateur /aspiring singers and performs a duet with them. Its a beautiful performance and I wish it was officially recorded and released👌 Also I would say his style of rap here is a bit like his style on Mono. It's pronounced Wah-lay, not Whale 🐳 Sorry to correct you, it's a pretty common mistake by people who don't know who he is. FYI - autogenerated subtitles hardly ever work, so unless you can choose from a regular list of subtitles, it probably won't work. Fun Fact - when Namjoon was in school, he used to write poetry, then from that came his rap lyric writing in his school notebooks, which then turned into rapping underground hip hop as a teenager (Rap stage name - Runch Randa), then he was signed to BIG HIT in 2009 at age 16 and the group was formed around him, then they debuted June 13, 2013 and he was 19 years old. ARMY is usually right about BTS songs, since we listen to it so much and love BTS and their content.

Hi! Thanks! I didn't know this song and it's veeery good! Can I suggest (ask for) you to read the lyrics for us (non native speakers), there are good ones in doolset, i.e. All RM production is excellent. Do you, Joke, Persona, Moonchild, the mixtape Mono (you have to react to the whole mixtape... It's a trip... a good one!)..

So underrated. (I think its pronounced WAH LAY) You should listen to BTS track '2! 3!'. Similar vibe, great healing message yet again from BTS.💜
