@Rocky Mountain ATV MC, can you post up the P/Ns, or provide links, to the replacement dust and oil seal in the seal head? I see the All Balls replacement unit on your site, but would prefer to keep the OEM steel seal head if possible.

my Tusk replacement kit only came with one clip ring and of course mine has two. I ended up using the best of the two existing and the new clip worked out great. just remember when you are going to put it back together whenever you hook up the spring compressor be sure that the top part is in the right notch. there is a bolt you will see the notch that that bolt fits in. otherwise you will be like me and put it together and realize that the adjustment on the top is on the opposite side and then you have to compress the spring again and rotate the top to the correct position. would have been easy if I was using the correct tools I was using a strut spring compressor for a car save yourself the trouble and buy the Tusk one

Hi great video just purchase a couple parts from Rocky Mountain ATV and rebuild the rear shock on my 2006 klr 650 now all i needed was the nitrogen and put it back together but the shop that i went to said the shock has to be completely ensemble in order for them to pressurized it. My question issues if done their way would it damage the shock?

hello and thanks for awesome help video. I'm a expatriate Coloradan living on a remote island in Greece where it is impossible to find a shop that has nitrogen. If I do the rebuild using air instead of nitrogen what will be the result? thanks for your help.
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 8 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend putting air in the shock. Nitrogen looses pressure at a slower rate than air does and also runs cooler. Providing more of a consistant feel and dampening. Air will heat up the shock and will wear out your internals out. Usually you can find any auto shop that will have access to nitrogen.

g karr if your island has an airfield, you might be able to check with the local airfield personnel. Aircraft use nitrogen to service tires and emergency systems. Good luck!

On the bottom of the auxilary chamber there should be some sort of schrader valve to re-charge the shock with nitrogen? From all the schematics i've checked, they don't show a good enough angle to see if there is a valve though. So if you can tear into it and see that there is an air valve on the bottom of that chamber, there is where you would be able to pressurize the shock with new nitrogen. You can go to your local shop to help you as well. Thanks

unfortunately there's none,even a tiny hole either..but now i finally torn apart the whole shock and all the components were in good shape but the oil seems too low..i come up an idea to install schrader valve somewhere in the reservoir but still need to buy the valve and i don't think if our locals stores here has it..well thank you for the reply i got some interesting ideas from your videos..Godbless

wish you could have showed the seal piston washer order. I took mine off and some of the small washers still slipped between the larger washers and are now out of order. No pics online for the E model piston order so I now have to send it in for rebuild. Was also told these alloy All Balls heads can break down and destroy the shaft. You need a dealer to rebuild it so they can order the KYB steel shock head for install.

+Rocky Mountain ATV MC I went ahead and listened to you and used the seal head. But when I went to my local shop they said their nitrogen adapter wouldn't fit the klr valve. Like it wouldn't fit on the nipple because of the housing around it. So he said he put 60 psi of air in there and it would be fine. What do u think?
@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 8 жыл бұрын
+Keith1212 We recommend 140 psi and filling the shock with nitrogen. Nitrogen doesn't expand or heat up like air would in a confined shock. Giving you better feel and performance out of that rear shock.
@Keith1212
@Keith1212 8 жыл бұрын
+Rocky Mountain ATV MC yea I'm not sure why a shop as big as it was didn't have the right fitting to fill my klr shock. And then to tell me 60 psi of air is fine. I'm going to St/ Louis today so I will have someone there fill it with 140 psi of nitrogen. Thx for the replys.

From doing a little searching I found the center to center of each eyelet is approx. 410mm and then the stock spring rate is a 6.3kg rate but don't quote me on this info. I would suggest looking on a KLR forum or something similar to confirm this info.

As far as i know, there isn't a schematic that shows the order the shim stack and washers go? I would contact a suspension company like Race Tech, i'm sure they have on record of what shims go where on a factory shock? They deal a lot with how to revalve and shim suspension components. I apologize, we don't have a parts list showing the order they come in.

@rmatvmc
@rmatvmc 8 жыл бұрын
We put a 10w shock oil in ours, with a heavier duty spring and we like it for our application. A handful of factors can come into play when selecting a shock oil such as like your body weight, the bikes gear and how soft/hard you like your suspension. For our machine and rider, we rebuilt this shock to his liking. A 5w shock oil is pretty standard as well.

I was able to find everything except the nitrogen. Out of all of the local motorcycle shops none of them did nitrogen. I do not understand how you can service motorcycles without rebuilding shocks. I called tire shops everywhere no one had the nitrogen or the capability. Finally I found someone in Paris Texas about 1 hour away from me that has their own rig and charged $50. I asked could you please do $40 and he said yes. Thank goodness he was able to help me. I do not know if it was biden inflation or just that he was able to charge whatever he would like because it was his own rig but I was about to pay $400 to get set up with my own just to do one shock. $158 for the manifold and no bleed valve kit. Then you have to buy a bottle of nitrogen and have it filled. Probably closer to 300 but come on
