#1 tip: use a higher gear until you get a feel for jumping. First time on a track with my CR250R, I was struggling, going nose high, getting kicked sideways. A fellow rider said hit it 4th instead of 3rd. Made world of difference in the smoothness of the jump and landing.

My old man and my buddy told me this the other day except we race quads. After 16 years off a machine I have to learn to jump again cause I have speed everywhere else on the track lol. They saw me nose diving told me pop it into 3rd out of the corner and don't let all the way off the throttle and I instantly started clearing the bigger tables I was landing short on

If you leave the jump in the right body position and with your body balanced front to rear you'll fly level. I've discovered that if I pay attention to my arms as I leave the jump face it'll let me know what to expect. If you're carrying weight with your arms (think push up) you'll be nose down, if you're pulling on the bars you may loop out. Leave the jump face with all of your weight in your feet and no pressure in your arms.

2:11 ''Rocket Ship'' (if not 'generally' in the neut position, too far back) another interesting result of this undesirable position and attitude of the bike is that when you land rear tire first, the possibility of your handle bars being jerked out of your grip is high. Landing well and safely is a science all by itself, I'm sure they have videos on this as well. Advanced tip for avoiding serious injury if you're about to loop or endo, you're in the air and freaking out; If your front wheel is scary high, you can hit the brake just a millisecond and bring some of the high front bac toward level, and conversely, if you're front of bike is too low and you might endo, you can nearly whiskey throttle for a blip/millisecond, to bring that front back up toward level. Neither of these methods is a guarantee, but they have helped a lot of riders.

As for the mistakes I am making, I noticed that when jumping I tend to bend my knees bringing most of my weight back usually happens at the jump face, I guessing it’s just a lack of strength and getting used to, but as soon as I can I’ll correct it, maybe get stronger in the lower body, as for the other common mistakes, I’m try to avoid them as much, like before I actually tried jumping, I was already working on gripping the bike, proper gear selection and keeping a nice steady throttle input, I’ve already worked on those but there can still be improvements. Thank you for the tips and for making this video in general, it is very helpful.

So thank you, and I am watching this now to correct my mistakes when jumping, although my bike is not really a motocross production bike, it’s just a little 125 dual sport from Yamaha, I believe I can apply some of the tricks mentioned here.

Tip # 6, get confident on table jumps 1st, then try small doubles and work your way up! Seat time is the BEST teacher! Doubles are unforgiving if you come up short! Tables are VERY forgiving! #7 the "smoother" you are in the jump approach, the more fun you will have! Smooth is safe, smooth is fast, and after your confidence builds up, youll learn to move your bike around a bit while in the air so you get used to its behaviour while airborne. #8 do NOT death gripp your bars! That makes you too rigid and your body will absorb much more of the landing impact that it should.

Right when you’re about to launch off a ramp/jump should you pull back on your handlebars a bit to bring the front wheel up?
@rmatvmc5 ай бұрын
You only need to pull up on the handlebars when you're giving everything you got to get over the jump i.e. seat bounce out of a corner or when you see the 250 guys trying to clear LaRacco's Leap at RedBud. The vast majority of jumps you don't want to pull up as you take off, this will cause the classic "boner air" and make it hard to level the bike in the air. I would say that for most jumps as you're learning, you want to have steady throttle all the way off the jump face, this will keep your bike as level as possible. - Chase
