This song was the hardest song for Chester (blonde) to sing live. It was hard on his vocal cords and hard on his mental health. It is about the abuse he went through from 7 years old to 13 years old at the hands of an older boy as well as the abuse he did to himself with drugs and alcohol from the age of 11 years old till his death. In 2006 Chester got clean from drugs and he struggled with his alcohol addiction for the rest of his life.

The singer who is blonde in this video is Chester Bennington, he's generally speaking the singer of the band, while the guy with dark hair here is Mike Shinoda, who's generally the group's rapper (although he also sings at times!). Many of the band's songs have stronger hip hop elements to them. Linkin Park are known for writing about darker topics, like mental illness, addiction, grief, relationship struggles, and just generally some of the tough parts of life that people go through. Both singers, as well as other band members, write lyrics; and sometimes they collaborate on a song were their inspiration for the lyrics come from different places, but end up being about a similar emotional core. I believe Chester spoke about how he related this song to his struggles with addiction. The music video takes another approach, and seem to show this story of a young woman experiencing abuse, and how the abuse she had suffered impacts her relationship with people around her, like her romantic partner, and how she seems to feel unclean, and separated from others by metaphorical icy walls. There is a moment in the music video where Chester stands face to face with the woman, and sings of standing beside his own reflection. That might be symbolic, since Chester was himself a survivor of CSA. This song really shows how delicate AND aggressive Chester could sing, without even going full into screaming. It's fascinating how much and how different emotions can be conveyed through the use of distorted singing. I believe I recommended "The Messenger" on another reaction, and I think that's a whole third example of how that can be used. Thank you so much for reacting to this song, it's a song that's very special to me, since I used it to help my parents undertand how I sometimes felt because of my mentall illness, back when I was too young to have a proper vocabulary for what I was going through ❤

It was great seeing your reaction to this. IMO the dichotomy of chester's volume level perfectly highlights the struggle of mental health. Sometimes its calm, sometimes it rages. I would suggest Papercut or In the end. Both songs have a heavier rap element then the other ones you have done. I love seeing your reaction to linkin park songs. You can never know what kind of song you are going to get.

This song is said to have a special meaning to Chester especially, since its lyrical content is based on his own life experiences. And due to such, he reportedly got emotional when he was called upon to perform "Crawling" live. While listening to Linkin Park's "Crawling", it becomes obvious that the narrator is dealing with a serious situation. The lyrics read as if he is inflicted with some sort of internal dilemma. And this dilemma ultimately results in "too much pressure", 'confusion', 'insecurity' and other unfavorable conditions. But what exactly serves as the source of these issues is open to the interpretation. This song manifests that nasty feeling that something is crawling under your skin. Much of the lyric delivered by Chester Bennington deals with the side effects of taking methamphetamines - a drug he used throughout his teens. The anxiety, hallucinations and a feeling of things crawling under his skin. The song, though, can apply to anyone feeling uncomfortable and helpless. In the video, the girl (played by Katelyn Rosaasen) is physically abused by her father. At the beginning, we can see all her bruises. Many of the lyrics demonstrate how hard it is to break the cycle of abuse ("These wounds, they will not heal" and "It's haunting, how I can't seem to find myself again, my walls are closing in"), and how self-confidence is crushed. The blue crystal background closes in on her at the beginning of the first chorus - this shows an emotional shell that she has built around her. The thick make-up is like a mask, trying to hide what's going on inside. The septum ring is designed to link with Chester's lip ring. When the girl walks away from her boyfriend, it's because she's too scared to get close to people. This is also true for the high school bathroom scene. When Chester sings, "Against my will I stand beside my own reflection," he and Katelyn are looking at each other. She looks like she wants to get out of the shell she's in. She also sees painful memories from her past in the crystal. When the second chorus starts, the crystal begins to break and chunks of it are flying about - this is her shell falling down. It represents her father's departure, as does her smiling at the end with the roses in the vase. She's not wearing the thick make-up because she doesn't feel like she needs the protection of a mask - she's got nothing to hide from.

Linkin Park never really played the same or similar scores in their songs we were always given a fantastic range of music. From their concepts of music & lyrics to the final crafting .. from every members beyond talent talent .. with Mike's rap and Chester's range all the way through the various levels of fry .. we never knew where they were taking us but we all jumped on board to go with them always. They fell in the genre of Nu or Alternative Metal.

I got two suggestions for you that you will not regret or at least I know one you won't regret lol. You don't have to react but just worth watching. Chris Cornell covering nothing compares to you. Jay z and Linkin Park 99 problems, other tracks live. That was crazy. Hey thanks and again from USA told you I was going to subscribe and I'm going to try to turn you on to some of the students as well. Peace❤ I know someone from Birmingham UK. It's very hard for us Americans to recognize the dialect. You sound a little like her but you could be from London outer as we call it.❤ Peace from 23-year-old Latina USA Viva UK Viva USA Viva life

You should listen to the other version of Crawling when it is just Chesters voice and a piano, and if I am not mistaken Chester took his own life two weeks after that performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZuxXoF9qLeab8k

Escapes me how you don’t get he was a victim of childhood abuse and he’s trying to convey the hell he went through. Glad you didn’t suffer abuse at the hand of someone trusted but used that trust to abuse a child in the worse way. Some scars never heal and you feel there’s only one way out and unfortunately he went down the worse path possible to escape.
