Thanks for cranking that video out! FYI, I use Locktite 242 (blue: weaker one) to keep chainring bolts from coming loose. From memory I think my older SRAM Force ones came from the factory like that

Thanks for doing the grab test betweeen the old and new rings. I've seen that done before, but only on a worn out ring, so it's nice to see what it should look like on a new ring.

I like the fact that these chainrings are compatible with both, hidden bolt and non-hidden bolt cranks. Good engineering right there. As of Quarq, from my experience slope always changes a little with different brands chainrings (and zero offset might change a lot but it's not a problem). The difference might not be worth doing another full static calibration though.

How do you find the shifting?

While you're in there, wipe everything down. In my case, dried sweat corrodes the nooks & crannies where the rivet bolts meet. I put a bit of grease there before reassembling. Thi is on an Ultegra crank and Shimano doesn't call for it in their maintenance specifications, but I do it nonetheless. The dissolved sweat was evident with whiteness peeking through at the interface between the ring and the crank.

Thank you Mr Miller for that simple, (well it became simple on watching the video) clear, easy to follow and very informative video. It's a pity I discovered this vid just a few days after buying replacement chain rings and cassette but hey ho at least I should have a hassle free drive train for a while and a sure fire way of checking it in the future. Do you know of a similar style of visual tests for checking for cassette by any chance? ha ha ha

Wish you would've mentioned the hard to find crank extracting tool...(was it a Torx 45 with either a 1/4 or 1/2 inch drive end?). Also, don't know why you waited to torque the chain ring bolts until the crank was back on the bike.

@2906rick
@2906rick 5 күн бұрын
Praxis just respond to me. What do you think about this answer?? We have been making a running change to the Buzz rings to make them stiffer to accommodate the increased forces applied by electronic front derailleurs. The new rings (presumably what you received) reflect these changes. These new, stiffer rings are just now beginning to trickle into the market. Here in the U.S. we still are selling the older version (157 grams) but will switch to the new version once we’ve sold through them all. The website will be updated to reflect weight increase at that time. Thanks for your understanding.

My wife and me experience the same on our Tacx Neos. I initially suspected that the freehub body of the neo is positioned slightly off compared to the wheel. On second thought, it might just be the difference in how tightly you close the quick release.

Are the Shimano 9100 and 8000 generation chainrings downwardly compatible with the 9000 and 6800 series cranks?
@briandarnell1809
@briandarnell1809 6 жыл бұрын
I''ve mixed and matched between 6800 and 8000. I could no longer find 6800 cassettes and bought an 8000 which I was told were interchangeable. A few weeks ago I replaced my Cannondale hollowgram crankset with a Quarq D-zero BB30 set-up and Praxis Buzz chain ring. It is smooth as butter and shifts better than ever.

The only part of the R8000 groupset not backward compatible is the crankset (if I recall correctly from GCN's first peek) - slightly different chainline but whether that is achieved via the rings or crankset is the question??? I think it was 0.4mm (again if i remember correctly).
