My grandad used to drive trucks all over Europe and regularly used that road on his trips to Italy too, back in the 80’s. He now lives about an hour from there and told me exactly the same story whenever we passed there when we were driving past, and still do sometimes whenever I go and see him.

Used to do a weekly run from Erith to Paris then onto Milan, then back to Paris then home for nearly 3 years, loved it and never got bored of that scenery, or the food and fine wines whilst waiting 24 hrs for the return trailer in Milan, but that's another story. 🤫

That monument is the cerdon and commemorates the French people who died at the hands of the Germans. I used to do Italy for about 25 years and that was before the motorway was built, so used this route all the time.
