I agree with you. My first Harley was a 2010 Road King. I just wanted a big bike with saddle bags so I could go cross country. No fairing and no stereo. I eventually got a 2013 ultra limited because my wife was not really comfortable on the back of the Road King on long trips. I love both bikes but the Road King is more nimble has a better sound and I just love it.

I have bmw k1600 gtl -18 Bought I brand new with all the bells and whistles. Fast as a shark… Also have a Harley Road King Classic-08, supertuner screaming eagle, beach bars, bat fairing, saddleman solo seat, kuryakin grips Harley lower wind deflectors etc. Both are great bikes!!! Harley Davidson’s all about sound and soul. Just love it 👍😎

Yes I have both also For riding in the mountains Riding in bad weather Riding in the wind Riding with no hands at 80mph and taking pictures the road glide The glide is pretty darn fast Riding cross country = the road glide The road king A 2-4hr ride no problem Long rides it tends to give a work out It knocks out the stress and the built up frustration and after the ride boi do you feel like a different person Got to love the road kang

I switched from a RoadGlide to a RoadKing. The Glide was a big powerful touring bike that was great when we rode two-up. I have since switched to the King b/c of bad knees. It’s significantly lighter and sits closer to the ground so it’s easier to handle. I also absolutely love the look of the RoadKing; to me they are the quintessential Harley Davidson.

The bug got me and I ended up watching your vids. I just got back from picking up my new 2012 RoadKing classic. It resembles Duke. I've been saving for a Road King for a while. Have my heart set on it. Today, I sat on a new Road Glide Classic. It pulled at me. It talked in a very suggestive way to me. 😮 Lots of bells and whistles. It played AC/DC Shoot to Thrill really loud in the dealership. Now I am troubled. I intend some extended trips around the US.

I agree I did it sold my 2011 roadglide cvo just a beautiful bike went one summer and started missing my Harley so I got a new roadking special and just love it if the standard came with a 114 I would have gotten it I miss my chrome

Road king. The option for the windshield is key. I don’t always want a fairing. That’s just me. That being said. I love the road glide.

We have a few things in common, I'm 63 and really looking forward to retirement so I hear you there. I also have a 05 road king I never want to part with and I also have a 19 electraglide std with the 107 m8 wich I love to it would be very hard to choose between them. Anyhow great video today.

Both bikes have their special upside depending on your needs and likes. I like the do-dads and tech on a Road Glide fairing. My phone is always off and in a saddle bag when I ride but I do like loud loud music. On the other hand, the Road King, which is my current ride (and loaded with a sound system,) has one feature that I find attractive enough to lean into the King as King. I like to hide behind the tall windscreen when it is raining...and in New England it rains an awful lot. I road 60 miles in torrential downpours last year in NH from north of Mt Washington to South of Laconia. If not for that windscreen I probably would not have been able to do it. I had ample rain gear on a day that wasn't supposed to be wet but the mountains have their own personality. So, covered in rain gear and visibility only to the tail lights of the car in front of me I traveled through the rain, lightning, and thunder with the heaviest rain moving south with me. I had one brief respite in Tamworth but only for a mile as I turned back into the torrential rain a mile down the road. I saw plenty of Road Glides parked under trees on the narrow road knowing they were going to be there for hours unless they braved it. That windscreen kept rain out of my eyes and allowed me to be home by early afternoon to watch the storms the rest of the day.

I now live in Omaha Nebraska. I have the 08' RKC. Bought it used. All I did was add the heritage bars to help with my upper back. I rode it to Houston and back. To spearfish SD and back. A little nervous at first, but mostly concerned if I had a flat tire wtf. About 200 miles in to my long distance trip, the bike rode like a smooth Cadillac. Unfortunately I dont see any long distance trip youtube videos for road king classics with tubed tires. Bit yeah.... if I want music I installed a boss audio set. Mostly, I just put ear plugs in for fatigue

I agree! In 20 years when someone walks up to that road king it’s going to look like a classic and timeless. Most people won’t be able to tell if it’s a 2000 or a 2020 (average person). In 20 years when someone walks up to that Road Glide they’ll say damn this thing looks outdated! Look at that screen…look at those old speakers. It will be like us looking at a old 8 track deck. Not sure if that makes sense. The road king will always be a timeless classic.

I definitely agree with what you said. The few times I walk in to the local HD dealer and see the polished fairing bagged bikes then start thinking about trading in my RKC... I start test riding a couple of them. I felt so boxed in with all of the plastic fairing and luggage around me. The long trips I made on the RKC felt more open and free. Don't exactly know how to explain it.

I think next year is the 30th Anniversary of the Road King so they should do something special! Even though it’s lineage goes back to the 40’s I believe the Road King name was first given in ‘94.

I can't agree with you more, I own a 2005 Road King Classic and I absolutely love it. I'm like I will never get rid of it. I would pay $10,000 dollars to get rebuilt back to New condition before I would buy a new one.

Neither is “better.” I think mainly it comes down to do you want the electronics and a bit better wind protection. Road Glide is of course better for those. But some, like me, don’t want a lot of that extra stuff. So I bought the RK Special. Stripped down but on the touring frame yet. All depends on what you are looking for in the bike.

@BoDean 52 Thought about it. This just isn't comfortable for a passenger. Not much room with my current setup. The Goldwing and BMW had a lot of passenger room and was comfortable. Same price as what I paid for my Road Glide. Still gonna keep the RGS. Thinking if I add a tour pack and position it back a little there will be more room. Hopefully.

I have had all the touring Harley's and technology aside (which is nothing more than a distraction) the Road King reigns supreme. It handles better. It rides better and it looks better. Road King for a reason.

Agreed, for myself as well. A lot of great local roads around D but after a while… Researching now 6x10 enclosed trailers. Ohio 9 is a good example. Looks great but have no desire to ride 4 hours down and back, on my Versys anyway. Plan is look up ‘best motorcycle roads in…fill in the state’. Trailer there, enjoy, trailer back. No desire to ride two up so works for the wife and I. She does her local exploring while I ride and we have time together before and after.
