Years, and I mean many, many years ago I was sitting at a multi-track crossing (SAL/SCL era) in my car. They were doing switching moves, every time they cleared the crossing the moronic woman behind me would lay on the horn, not a beep-beep, but a very long beeeeeeeeeep, and when I refused to move (crossing still active and gates down), this dimwitted bimbo gets out of her car and tells me to drive around the gates. She's in such a hurry, and I need to get the f*** out of her way! I tried to explain to her what was going on, and if you drive around the gates with a train actively switching....(I get cut short): and she screams at me "DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT, GET OUTTA MY GD WAY A**HOLE!" No, I didn't move, now the crossing gates were starting to move up, she, in her infinite wisdom opted to drive under the crossing gate(the gate at the time was a very heavy wooden gate, not the flimsy break-away type in use today). So just as she gets her windshield under the gate, it starts back down due to a fast moving freight coming from the opposite direction, and hidden by the stopped train switching, the gate crashes into her windshield, breaking it, and also puts a nice huge, long dent in her hood as she tried to back up. Fortunately the freight was on a track far enough away she didn't get hit, but I'll bet she now had a full load in her bunched up panties.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I knew it was coming, but she, like so many impatient fools at railroad crossings just don't want to listen. She was darn lucky she didn't earn herself a Darwin Award. And I'll bet that experience still didn't teach her a lesson.😔

I'd bet NS is spending a ton on rail maintenance in Ohio after E. Palestine. As for the crazy guy honking at the train, better to slowly move away and avoid eye contact. A railfan was shot in Memphis on Nov 28th while photographing trains. Pick relatively safe spots or go with a buddy or three if railfanning sketchy areas. Wasn't always that way. I remember trudging around Cedar Hill yard (New Haven) solo, camera in hand, in my youth. Wouldn't do that now Keep the vids coming JT, you're the hardest workin man on KZbin!

Interesting! There are several of the CANNAS cars. I see them now and then. I think it means White Hair. I have no idea why they paint that on railcars lol
@HolidayDecorator11 ай бұрын
@@JawToothnope, this is what Cannas is: plural noun: cannas a tropical American plant with bright flowers and ornamental broad, flat leaves. A photo of the plant shows it being bright red, so kind of funny they paint it in "green". And canna can also mean cane or reed like. And just some additional info: Cannas flowers have various symbolic meanings including beauty, protection, glory, power, hope and confidence. Some consider them flowers of purification. So, take your pick what it might mean on a specific style railcar. At least this is what I found using Google to get info on the word and its meaning. One of the biggest complaints I hear about on the news is concerning the ever increasing lengths of trains. Go back 60 to 100 years ago, trains were relatively short. A 100 car train of 40-foot cars wasn’t that long. A 200-car train of 70 to 80-foot cars is much longer! They can block more crossings for a longer period of time.

The motorist who blew his horn at the train was not a railfan. What good does it do to blow the horn at a train that is moving. The engineer is not going to hear you blowing your horn. That was a nice catch of Norfolk Southern's Leigh Valley Railroad Heritage Unit. I would suggest that Norfolk Southern sends that unit down south so that it can be run through a washer. It has a lot of dirt and grim on it. You caught some long trains in this video. I enjoyed watching this video even though it was interrupted by at least two commercials for the Naval Warfare PC Game.

The audio during the segment beginning @22:00 (thru @23:00) was impeccable...very reminiscent of General Electric "early" days of locomotive prime movers, namely the unforgettable FDL's onboard such classic "U-boats" as the U25B's and "upward". Meanwhile...the "brand-new" Union Pacific boxcar @25:06 is a "sorry" statement of the times we now live in, namely with the new car's reporting marks purposely relocated to the top of the car, relinquishing railroading's traditional lower position (on the carbody) to the miscreants-run-amuck who vandalize railroad property with their spray-painted scribble that isn't worth a damn.
