I met Patrick a few years ago at COTA before a race. He was standing by the car, cup of coffee in hand. It was freezing outside, and I asked for a pic. He set down his cup and smiled. Really nice guy.

Porsche has always been one of my favorite brands. My biggest "gripe" yet simultaneously my favorite thing about Porsche is the minimal amount of aesthetics they apply to each of their new models. They tend to keep it pretty traditional year after year, and while i applaud that, it also gets a bit boring trying to keep up with which model is which since they all mostly look the same. They also complicate things further with what they call the models/chassis (991, 993, 996, 992, 911s, L, E, 3.0, 3.2, T, all the dashes and dots, etc). The RS models all stand out within the lineup, but the 2023 911 GT3 RS seems to consist of enough change to stand out on it's own, yet keep the timeless "Porschesque" styling, so props for that!

It is interesting to look back at the past models and see how much they actually have changed. The steady schedule of redesigns then mid model refreshes does make it seem slow but when you look at two generations with one in between you really start to see the evolution and I like how it just keeps getting dialed in rather than changing something too radically that has become the longest running institution of a design in the industry. I'll contrast that wish something like the honda civic, which has changed rapidly in a shorter amount of time and some redesigns were more successful than others but what you have now versus 30 years ago is totally unidentifiable in design lineage. I know I'll probably get some flack for comparing the 911 to the civic but I think they are more similar than meets the eye as far as being utilitarian, focused, simple, mostly understated other than Gt/RS and Si/T-tech/R respectively and above all reliable cars. Really the biggest difference I can think of other than price and power is the drive train is reversed and non turbo civics actually dont have turbos.
