Road to Improvement Ep. 3: Silver Sport Transmissions and a Tremec TR-4050 5-speed swap (Part 2)

On Part 2 of our TREMEC TR-4050 transmission install, we see the crew at Silver Sport Transmissions in Rockford, Tennessee hit a bit of a snag when they find out that our refurbished 4-wheel-drive transfer case didn’t come with a shifter lever. Did that faze them? Nope, not in the least - which you’ll soon see. We also learn of a very interesting way to remove a pilot bushing with a piece of bread, welcome Adam from Knoxville Driveline as he shows up with our shiny driveline parts, and then finally, we take Big Green our 1981 Chevrolet Suburban, out for a test drive before heading 400 miles west for our next stop at the Edelbrock Group headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee.

I had an Uncle show me the bread hack but it was with wet toilet paper, did have a plumber show me a bread hack to temporarily stop water flow too .

How about some driving impressions? Is the speedometer correct? How many RPM's did it drop at crusing speed? Is the transfer case useable? A little more tech oriented would be welcome.

So you'll see all the driving impressions of all the parts we installed in the upcoming installments. But yes, the speedometer was accurate, the transfer case worked great (as you'll see shortly) and all in all, the truck turned out beautifully!

Why a 205 transfer case? It has a 1.96 low gear Was there any other options 208, 241 Just wondering

That is a Fox body Thunderbird. It has a Coyote swap and was in getting a Magnum 6 speed conversion
