I rode Airline a lot in my childhood when visiting my grandma, who lived near Airline and Clearview. I remember staying at a Holiday Inn (probably now the Knights Inn) and seeing a movie or two at the Panorama Theatre (likely gone). I also remember seeing a motel called the Sugar Bowl Courts. L&A Road took its name from the Louisiana & Arkansas Railroad, a now-merged subsidiary of Kansas City Southern.

The motel that is now Knights Inn has been there forever. I didn’t know it was a Holiday Inn though. The Sugar Bowl Courts was on the corner of Central Avenue I believe. It was demolished some time in the last 10 years.

We currently have US-61 up to Vicksburg, MS. It's on our list to get from beginning to end. It's just hard to find time to do a long haul like that.

5:06: in this stretch to the parish line the city expropriated the properties to build Airline, as the neighborhood was plotted to the tracks.

Airline Hwy. no longer looks like I remember it. Of course, that was way before I-10 was built. I haven't been through your back channel, but have you done a video on the stretch between Belle Chase and Venice ? I spent a lot of time in Venice back in the early-mid 60s...

We drove LA-23 from Gretna to Venice this year, so the video we have of that is very recent. Check out Road Trips #640-651.

Right at the end of this video it looks like a storm recently had passed through the area is there any information on that?

I had to look this up...I remembered something about a tornado right before I shot this video. I didn't go through much of the part that was hit hardest, but it does look like some damage is visible. I published this video on March 6, 2016 and the tornado struck on February 24. www.nola.com/weather/index.ssf/2016/02/laplace_tornado_damage_the_lat.html

There's all sorts of lore about that place. May have been some glowing radioactive material that got released when scrappers tried to take apart some radiology equipment.

The speed of the video needs to be slowed down, especially while in the city of New Orleans. I grew up near Tulane and Broad Streets and wanted to be able to see more of that area, but couldn't because of the speed. Otherwise, I enjoyed it.

I’ll try to get some higher definition, real-time footage of that area. In the meantime, this may be of some interest to you, since Tulane Ave has changed so drastically in the past couple of years. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGeoeJ-NntOXkJY
