Road Trip #381 - Highland Road Northbound - Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Highland Road takes a scenic, winding course through East Baton Rouge Parish beginning near Prairieville just off of US-61, up through LSU's campus and ending at the southern edge of Downtown Baton Rouge. This is our second video of Highland Road, with the older 2016 video covering Highland Road southbound. We had much better lighting conditions for this video.

I live just up the road west of old jefferson, is located near a new hospital meaning frequent passing ambulances and fire trucks.

I live pretty close to a hospital, so I know the feeling. You start to tune out the ambulance sirens after a while…until you hear the coyotes in the nearby woods howling along with the sirens!

I moved from Baton Rouge in 1971, but as I remember Highland Road south of LSU a ways, it was pretty devoid of development at the time. I also seem to remember from one of my teachers at Baton Rouge Junior High, in the process of teaching Louisiana history, that Highland Road was built on the edge of high land that was the geological extension of the Istrouma Bluff--the first high land found coming up the Mississippi River--why the French chose that location for Baton Rouge. It was the first place not subject to annual floods of the river. Since I went to LSU, I'm very familiar with Highland road north of LSU--at least as it was in the late 1960's and early 70's. That part of the video is surprisingly familiar in appearance from back then. Different names on a lot of the same old buildings. Good video. I've subscribed and will be looking through your others. Highland road continues to be more and more developed near its southern end. We drove part of it yesterday to get video of Pecue Lane, which is a country road that connects Highland with Airline Hwy. They’re widening the bridge over I-10 and have future plans to put an exit there.
