French Settlement dweller here! I live a couple hundred yards past the first bridge you crossed. Unfortunately the new bridge isn`t much further along than when you passed it. Thanks for the ride!

That's quite a long wait for a new bridge!

I have been to French Settlement, totally by accident. I ended up there and coy figure out how to get out. Some very nice people pointed me in the right direction. I am not really sure where I was and it was getting dark. Thanks. 😊

Evidently, a Louisiana State Highway is rarely the shortest distance between two points! Especially one that changes its direction twice in 10 miles for random reasons.

YT rabbit hole brought me to this video. Amite is pronounced A-Meet and Colyell is pronounced Coh-Yell. It’s a speed trap Village, so y’all watch out.

There are so many different pronunciations of Amite. My cousin has a place just north of the Mississippi state line, and the locals up there go down the road to (and this is an approximation) "uh-MYET".
