For us a road trip is about the most fun we can have and each trip takes on it's own personality, but this one was quirky to say the least! We discuss how to find free campsites, tell you why the Plains Indian's teepee is one of man's greatest inventions and show you more of those roadside oddities that you can find if you take the time.

My wife’s family were sodbusters in Beatrice. Our daughter and grandsons live in MO. Speaking of mowing lawns, it seems like everyone owns a lawn tractor. No matter what size lawn they have.😀 That was an awesome light show!
@gonagain

Sodbusting was a hard life. We bought a corner lot years ago and the first time I mowed made me go right out and get a riding mower. 20 minutes compared to 2 hours!

What’s funny is when visiting our daughter in MO we see people mowing on their riding mower a lawn that would only take 5-6 passes with a regular lawn mower.😂 My wife was actually born in Beatrice. But her folks moved to California when she was a baby.

We motorhome from Las Vegas to the upper Midwest every year to visit family and thoroughly enjoy going through Nebraska and Iowa on the back roads because the small towns are so receptive to RVers. Glad to see an “out west” Vlogger taking us through the Midwest and appreciating what you are finding along the way…PS broke down south of Beatrice 8/31 and the locals stopped to offer help, and a local repair shop worked on our motorhome before anyone else’s vehicle saying they understood being stranded…nice nice people. I doubt we would have received that service here in the west…

Hey, so there's another tipi fan out there! You're right about tipi's versus high wind. Many moons ago I attended a mountain man rendezvous with my tipi and one night high winds hit us all night long with 70+mph winds. The next morning there were wall tents down but I don't remember a single tipi that didn't withstand the wind. I did wake up to a quarter inch of fine dust covering everything inside, but that was minor compared to what the square sides went through! Then there was the one inch plus hail we experienced at the Vipond Park, Montana rendezvous back in the 90's. Old canvas like the tipi you just toured was no match, but mine was like new at the time. The local Ranger said it was very unusual to experience large hail at 9,000 ft elevation! Don't worry about KZbin regarding airguns, or even firearms for that matter. There are plenty of channels out there covering both, including the harvesting of Bambi and feral hogs! And that light show reminds me of a visit to Missouri long ago. I was sitting in a buddy's van listening to rock n roll one evening, and the lightning was so intense we thought we were on the dance floor at a disco! Soon after came the tornado warnings so off to the basement we went.
@gonagain
@gonagain 3 жыл бұрын
The teepee is an amazing invention, especially when you consider the lining. About those firearm channels, none of them are a monetized channel, so if I did videos like that I'd lose my income. I had to move my firearm videos over to Rumble, but there's not enough exposure there for us to earn a living to keep doing what we do so we'll need to just abide by YTs rules.

Rick have you ever contemplated using a 5 gal bucket with a hole in the lid, and a drywall paddle bit for a makeshift washing machine? Im curious if repurposing the shower water with a little bio degradable detergent would get them clean. I remember watching an old episode of Laramie where Robert fuller was taking a bath with his pants on and his shirt in the tub, i believe the line was no sense taking a bath and not washing my clothes lol. Makes me think hmmm???
@frankhornbuckle4614
@frankhornbuckle4614 3 жыл бұрын
The drywall paddle thing seems like it would work if there was a drill that agitates. Most drills only turn in one direction. Forward or reverse. I think your underwear might get wrapped around a drywall paddle and just spin.

Keeping this video for future reference. We stayed in Superior, Nebraska this summer for two weeks. Yes, they allow for two weeks at a time. They do allow for donations, if you so wish. You get water and electric. The town only has 1,957 pop. Therefore they do appreciate the income for their community business while we rv there. We shopped, washed clothes, bought diesel, etc. Harrison, Nebraska is another town of less than 300 pop. But they only allow for 3 days. Sweet towns with sweet clean air, and low pollen at the time we stayed there. And those places do like to keep the grass cut!

You two make them fun!! Great video from start to finish. Thanks for the review on different things in or on your trailer. Loved the 40 foot swing and the lightening show. Glad y'all were safe. And I did see the videos if the transmission ordeal. And yes I'm still impressed at how you fixed that!! Fall is here full swing in NW MT.🍁🌻

_This is what I do for my allergy/ itchy eyes and runny nose. Get a bowl of distilled water and some salt, dilute the salt into the bowl. Wash your eyes with a clean cloth or cotton pads, and use Q-tips for the inside of the nose. A few times a day. It takes care of my eyes and nose for a few days at a time. Rabbit sagebrush is terrible this year out here in the desert. I'm up north in Nevada, where that stuff is everywhere! Hope this helps you two? A couple of nights ago a huge thunderstorm roll in, and over my camping spot; it was very cool! Haven't been in one for about a year. The temps around are in the high 60s'; nights are in the mid-30s' I'm in high cotton, with though temps. I having coffee and enjoying your vlog this morning. Overlooking the valley in the middle of nowhere._

I am blaming this on you. LOL I sold my Aliner this because wife couldn't git in anymore. As it drove off I knew I made a mistake. The next day a post of yours came up on my screen. You were loading a four wheeler in the back of your camper. A light went off in my head. That would be perfect for my wife. She can drive her wheel chair into the back using the ramp. I bought this the next day. I have a lot of work ahead, but looking forward to it.😉

I have been watching your travels, Love them. I am 67 and just bought a 6 by 12 foot Cargo trailer. I haven't been away for the last 20 years. So soon enough, Lol. Quick Question, What is the ground clearance of your trailer? The used one I just bought doesn't seem as high as yours. I haven't been under it yet but I was told that it has a 5 inch drop down axle. Thinking of ordering a straight axle. It would give me an additional 5 inches of clearance since it is a Dexter axle.
@gonagain
@gonagain 3 жыл бұрын
Sitting level, our trailer is about 16" off the ground at the corners. We've found that to be good enough and seldom touch anything. Our straight axle isn't reversed either and sits on top of the leaf springs.

Just wondering, when you go in a new town, how do you stay off the bad side of town, all towns have them. Where we live you could get robbed in a city park. Do you try to stay away from big towns. Do you ever consider yourself lost. I guess if you have your home with you, you are never lost. Everywhere is home sweet home. As always a good video my friend.

Thank you WR! We avoid large cities like the plague and just try to be aware of what's around us when looking for a spot to stay for the night. There are lots of times when we just move on to look for a better place and that's how we get hung out sometimes in a truck stop or other location when we just didn't feel comfortable in the place where we planned on stopping. Move on, Linda? "Yeah, move on".

You have probably heard this a thousand times before, but if I knew you were coming.... You passed within 1/2 mile of my house on your way to Beatrice (Bee-at-tris). Hwy 77 Is just a few blocks to the west of my house in SW Lincoln. I would have really liked meeting you in person. The 4 H building behind you in the video is where they used to have the gun shows every year before Covid. Hebron (He-brun). The bricks that make up the streets you showed, probably came from Endicott Brick Factory just to the SE of Fairbury which you would have gone thru to get to Hebron. They have been making bricks for just over 100 years, and also do special order sculpture bricks. You were headed in the right direction going into CO to head down to the Dunes Natl Park. If you haven't been there, you might put it on your places to go. It is one of the cleanest Natl parks around, and at one point it was the #1 park in CO. It was about 45 min from my cabin, so I went there a lot. You can even sand surf there, and the very shallow stream that flows thru coming off the snows in the surrounding mountains is a huge sand beach to suntan and swim.
@gonagain
@gonagain 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the information Jim. We've been by Colorado's Sand Dunes Notional Park but have never visited. Now I have a reason to go there! Have you been to Bent's Fort near Pueblo? That's well worth the trip in itself.
@jimv.661
@jimv.661 3 жыл бұрын
No, I haven't been to Bent's Fort. I guess I wasn't aware of it. That's too bad because I would go thru Pueblo or near there about 10 times a year when I had my cabin in the Sangre de Cristo mountains down by San Luis. Another stop I always thought about as I drove the interstate north of Pueblo, was a volcano-looking hill some miles north of Pueblo (don't remember for sure). It was on the east side of the highway on flat land, back in about a mile, and was very sharply pointed at the top like a volcano. I couldn't find any info on the internet and always forgot about it until I was looking at it as I zoomed down the highway.
