Watching these videos gets me pump. I got 2014 SIERRA AT4 IN THE SHOP that's been giving me hell since Feb 15 when I got it in. We on April 18 JESUS CHRIST I JUST WANNA GET DONE. Been waiting for parts and looking for parts to welding and cutting. Its Grind. Watching your build has thought me to take time and do it rigth. Much love.

Hey there I had the same thing happen to my 2018 superduty I had it a broken wire on the chassis that lead to the water/fuel sensor ended up having to drop the fuel tank to find this problem but just traced the wire and found it might be your problem it about drove me nuts but finally fixed it completely. But love the build keep it up!! And FYI my truck just had 5,500 miles on it must’ve happened on assembly line!

Dave, please don't let the bitching, whining, KZbin trolls give you any crap about anything. It's amazing how some people can be so insecure in their own lives that they spend the time to be overly critical of someone else. I'm not talking about the people just asking a question, or wondering why, but those who are still in 5th grade making fun of someone else. I enjoy the videos on the truck. Would still love to have that cost breakdown, but no rush. You've done a great job!

About the water in your tank change where you buy your diesel fuel. There can be water in the tank at the station. I know because I used to drive a gasoline tanker for 35 years I am retired now. Try to buy your fuel at truck stops Flying A or the Iron Skillet for example. Your truck is probably right about the water. It cost the stations money to have the water removed from their tanks.

When recharging the a/c system since you pulled a vacuum on the system it pulled the oil out of the compressor you need to add oil back into the system. That's why the compressor caught on fire it wasn't getting any lubrication.
@sbeezynukka
@sbeezynukka 5 жыл бұрын
Tyler Pedigo when I did a compressor swap on 2 of my vehicles I pulled vacuum on them to get the systems ready for a charge not much oil came out, less than an 1/4 of an ounce, if the compressor had no oil there’s a failsafe in place for it, the same failsafe that won’t let it come on due to low pressure in the system aka no refrigerant
@deschene12
@deschene12 5 жыл бұрын
@@sbeezynukka there is no failsafe for the amount of oil in the system there would be no way for a system to sense that. Besides debris in the system, which is possible from the wreck, low oil is the only other way that a compressor can seize the way his did.

Pulling a vacuum, doesn’t pull the oil from the system.
@Garth2011
@Garth2011 5 жыл бұрын
Putting a vacuum on the system doesn't remove the oil but replacing parts, especially the condenser would take a lot of the free flowing oil away to coat the insides of the condenser etc. I doubt it was enough to starve the compressor enough to lock up that quick so, it likely had a problem from sitting and exposed to the air if it wasn't plugged or it was on its way out. He didn't say how long he had the system engaged so its hard to figure on this end.

Very impressive patience coupled with a skill set envied by all those that have to go to Ford just to change their oil. Hint to your significant other.... Get Dave some nice work light stands for his birthday. Suggestion, when you do your after-action-report on this project, include the time for camera work (setup, editing, etc) and subtract it from actual rebuild. I am curious as to the mission/mentoring video ratio. Outstanding work and an impressive memory.

Too bad about the A/C compressor. If you can purchase a "Sanden" authentic brand compressor, they are about $200 which is way less than the FoMoCo price. Sanden brand uses less HP and will survive longer than OEM. Also, do not forget to add some PAG/SP oil to the system. Had the compressor not failed and the recharging completed, your A/C system would have been too low on lubricant having replaced hoses and the condenser. Be super careful and accurate with the amount of PAG/SP oil you use. The water in fuel issue could simply be fixed by clearing the code in the module. Likely that is best diagnosed by someone with the OBD equipment and knowledge. Don't forget this rig has some miles on it, likely time for that transmission and transfer case fluid to be changed, since you never know how the previous owner drove it but by the fact that owner wrecked it and the interior was such a mess when you first got it, likely that owner did zero preventative maintenance.

20 inches of mercury on the compound gauge of your a/c gauge set is not sufficient to remove all the non-condensibles.. You will still have water and air at that level of vacuum. You should get much closer to 28 inches using a 2 stage vacuum pump (you can get one for about 1/2 of a hundred dollars if you shop around). What will happen is you will get a bead of moisture at the metering device which will freeze up and stop the evaporator coil from picking up heat. Plus you will create acid inside the system due to the reaction between the moisture and the refrigerant causing corrosion, leaks and a failed compressor. By the way you can get a 30 lb can of R134A for just about a tad over a hundred bucks (if you are interested in saving money). You can use it on most modern auto a/c systems out there.

How about the oil in ur a/c system. Didn't see u add any with new parts or that ur system blew most of the oil out with Freon in wreck Ur also suppose to have 28" of vacuum when vacuuming system for at least 30 minutes. Like ur show
@Garth2011
@Garth2011 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed, most A/C shops fail to run the vacuum for the required amount of time. The entire point of doing a vacuum is to remove all the moister in the system, boil it away. 28" for about 40 minutes I believe and then check for leaks. Also, there's a math formula for adding enough PAG/SD to compensate for loss of oil to the system via replacing parts. I let the A/C only repair shops do my vehicles as they do nothing but A/C or HVAC systems. They tend to do things better than a general mechanic does and they have the high end equipment.

good job keeping up with the build. did you inject any oil in when you charged the AC system? Most of the 134 systems need a few ounces of oil to keep the compressor lubricated internally.
@Halibrand
@Halibrand 5 жыл бұрын
I would guess that the system worked fine before the accident and David only disconnected a few lines and removed the condenser while frame swapping, should still hold 95% of its original pag oil.
@Garth2011
@Garth2011 5 жыл бұрын
@@Halibrand Lot of the oil is accumulated within the condenser and lines. If you add it all up, could be worth an ounce or two. Anytime A/C hardware is replaced, it's a good idea to add tiny amounts of oil to compensate as replaced parts are going to be dry and free of any oil which means the existing oil in the system will have to coat those parts first leaving less free and moving oil in the system. That compressor likely was on it's way out with the miles on the truck. Most of them don't last.
@Halibrand
@Halibrand 5 жыл бұрын
@@Garth2011 Yes that is true, however i dont think he replaced the condenser on this truck? If so 0.5oz pag oil should have been added to the system. Yes most likley the compressor was on its last leg anyway, i would recommend replacing the condenser and the dry filter when the new compressor is fitted, when the compressor gets this hot both metal carvings and burnt oil gets into the condenser and clogg the cells, especially in this case when the truck is fitted with a condenser with nano cells. Flushing this type of condenser is a no no, it harms them more then it helps.
@Garth2011
@Garth2011 5 жыл бұрын
@@Halibrand Oh yes, I forgot, the receiver drier/filter is a must to change when doing a main part replacement, especially the compressor, on A/C systems. Once he gets the compressor lines disconnected, he will be able to determine if it had failed and munched up parts or simply is stuck due to contaminants. Either way though, the dryer filter should be changed for insurance. Being the system was opened and sitting for sometime, it would be a good idea to flush the system prior to replacing the compressor. I hope he looks into those Sanden Compressors, they are the only ones that will last and live. All of the custom and restoration garages use them because they function and last.
