Thanks Tank, great analysis and reaction as always!! I generally avoid purely harsh vocals (regardless of the insane instrumental talent- like with Arch Enemy). But, if there is a decent smattering of clean vocals - like with Epica and Fear Factory- I can definitely dig it. This song will be added to my playlist for sure.

I read an interview where Alyssa said she didn't want to step on the toes of old arch enemy and Angela fans and so she chose to just do harsh vocals. It was actually Angela herself that's tried to talk her into using her amazing cleans. Also I had the same reaction the moment I heard her cleans, definitely got a little emotional.

This is exactly what I was expecting when AWG and Loomis joined Arch Enemy. Alissa isn't Angela, but that ain't a bad thing. She's a phenomenal vocalist who produces her screams and clean vocals spectacularly well. It gives AE the same "Beauty and Beast" dimension that Epica, Nightwish, Delain, and so many other bands have used... But with one singer. A beautiful beast. And you don't even have to be watching to just KNOW when Loomis takes over the solo. His phrasing is great and his picking is so damn articulate, even at breakneck speeds. I'm absolutely excited for this album.

The musical combo of all these great musicians has transformed Arch Enemy. It’s straight up God Tier with this band. I can’t wait to jam the whole album too Tank. I thought Angela departing years ago would be the downfall and I’m glad I was wrong because Alissa is a beast. 🤘🤘

I absolutely love your take on things and I agree 100% on Alissa and the prowess of Jeff and Michael. My favorite Arch Enemy song to date! Adding the clean vocals has not only changed the dynamic of what they can do musically, they now have the ability to gain a whole new audience of people who dig metal but just can't get behind all harsh vocals. If they can mix in more of this, it will be the most successful album of their career! So many people in metal circles say that it has to be this way or that way because that kind of metal is not like this kind of metal and there are rules to define genres. Here's the thing, real art has no rules. Sometimes musicians remember this and that is when you get songs like this one!

Deceiver, Deceiver already blew me away. With that little black-metal-esque riff it immediately became one of my atleast top 15, maybe top 10 arch enemy songs. Then came House of Mirrors and holy shit... it was soooo fucking catchy... my power metal heart fell already in love with it within the first minute.. since then it is on repeat and already my most listened to song over the past 12 months and definitely a contender when it comes to my favourite Arch Enemy songs ever... And now this... the perfect intro to an album or a live show. like you mentioned.. this last solo part of Amott / Loomis at the end is just orgasmic... again probably one of my favourite AE songs ever. I'm so hyped for July. We might have a real masterpiece ahead of us :)

Very happy that Alissa got to use the clean vocals for Arch Enemy. AE I’ve always thought were on par with all the Swedish greats (At The Gates, In Flames, Opeth, Katatonia) and aside from At The Gates they all included clean vocals to some degree. This definitely gives them a new dynamic. Why wouldn’t you utilize her full talents? Great stuff.

First time hearing this song, and AGAIN I´m gonna say it, it seems like with this album they´re really making a statement, coming to rip faces off like I haven´t heard in a while. When it dropped it drops so hard! And then just go full throttle I love it! The energy is sick \m/ AND GOD DAMN IT ALISSA!!! Everything you want from her vocals and the band in a song. A perfect song! Btw that tapping progression at the start of the solo reminds me of how the solo in "ONE" starts just slower. Interesting.

I think that Alissa's clean singing in AE was just a matter of time. She sang on previous album but it was only one song. Was it an introduction to something bigger? I think she will use her clean voice A LOT on the upcoming album and I can already see most ardent AE fans cringe and say that this is not a melodic death metal anymore.Well,it isn't.And I am glad the band decided to move on a bit.

I suspect she's only done one other song with a lot of clean vocals with Arch Enemy because it's what a lot of the long term fans expect. I certainly have heard a lot of that in comments for the song and on reactions. Considering a lot of those people have never got past Angela, she may have just said screw it. Honestly it's one of the first Arch Enemy songs I've ever connected with, and I'm betting there's a lot of other people like that. Dagoba recently had something similar.. I love it screw what other people think. Great reaction!

Actually, it was Angela (as manager) that encouraged Alyssa to start doing clean vocals too ( I saw this comment online at one of the euro music sites). I think Angela knows that there is a chance to grow the fan base. For me personally, I don't like non-stop harsh vocals. I REALLY like the mix (like Jinjer) a lot. Even 80% harsh with 20% clean is good for me. And I think also that die hard Angela fans will never 100% except Alyssa anyway, and Alyssa fans (like me) will want to hear her clean vocals too with AE..... so AE fanbase gets bigger. With this song I'm now a HUGE AE fan (esp w/ Loomis). Just my $.02.

@@TaverenTech Well I mean Angela did pick her as her replacement in the first place. I think that any time a band evolves in a major way the fans are going to have mixed reactions. Since you made a video about the Eskimo Callboy ESC situation, I'd like to suggest a reaction to one of the most fun German acts that ever performed at the ESC. It's the song "Wadde Hadde Dudde Da" by Stefan Raab(who was one of the most famous Late-Night Hosts and Entertainers in Germany, from 1990-2015, who since then works behind the scenes in German Television) from the ESC 2000. He managed to score 5th place, making him one of 3 German acts to manage to score a place in the top 5 in the last 21 years. He also wrote a handful of songs for people that appeared at the ESC, and he also was the initiator for the ESC casting show that led to Lena Meyer-Landrut appearing at the 2010 ESC, which she ended up winning. So he played a pretty big role in the 2000s when it comes to the ESC, and is definitely worth checking out.

Yes the cleans are epic! She orchestrates both dynamics well and flows between the harsh and clean. Tati from Jinger is a prime example of this....kudos AE!!!
