Roadrunner-M: The AI interceptor UAV that hunts and destroys attack drones

A new autonomous high-explosive interceptor drone system is being developed to hunt down and destroy other uncrewed aerial vehicles.
Known as the Roadrunner-M, the vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), operator-supervised autonomous air vehicle (AAV) is an advanced high-explosive interceptor that can destroy kamikaze drones and large aircraft.
The Roadrunner is an AI-guided craft designed to tackle the "mission sets of tomorrow", according to its developer, Anduril.

War has changed, it's about numbers and cost. If you want to win, have a million drones that cost $1000 each, not a thousand drones that cost $1m each.

yes numbers having million drones and only few hundred drone pilots would mean you can use only so many at the same time AI drones could launch all 1000 at once to find and destroy targets and clear a big area in minutes which would have a bigger impact in combat

For countering small, cheap drones they could probably replace the warhead with a shotgun or net launcher, since the airframe is reusable. It would need to use frag vs a Lancet tho, and since those are $35k, that's a bad exchange.

@@concinnus Shotgun - recoil problems in small drones. And the overall cost of one airframe vs explosive part... Well you could save some by using droppable frag grenades... Or similar explosive ways that Javelin uses, just detach the explosive part at needed safety range. But on flying speeds the accuracy may become a problem. You may try to approach enemy drone from behind, so the speed can be matched with the target... Or just use even smaller bomb drones that just land on enemy warhead and explodes. (pinpoint accuracy and recognition...) One large winged flying drone can carry multiple defensive ones around the protected location. (better placing, longer air time, ...) In most cases you need just to shoot enemy drone down with lesser costs that where it is targeted (count also psychological prices). Soon after we get these defensive drones running, the attacking drones will have their drone defenders too... Similar what has been suggested to defend fighter jets. We are at the beginning of the drone swarms that sweeps through battlefields.

20k to a 100k might be the manufacturing costs. If the manufacturer can get away with it, they will charge the DOD 100k to 500k. And if the alternative is using a MANPAD, they might even get away with the 100k.

The little country of Ukraine used ingenuity to change the makeup of warfare using low-cost FPV drones against very expensive tanks, radar systems, missile launchers, etc. Now the battle has been to counteract these drones. Amazing!

It's probably cost several hundred thousand dollars. So I'm not sure it's a good solution against cheap kamikaze drones. If it's so smart and can land, maybe mount a weapon on it and make it reusable?
