A lot of know it all people giving comments here! Most have never worked on a engine at all in their lives but know that this is no good. Have done this kind of repair myself on my jeep truck in the driveway (replaced all the bearings on rods and crank shaft) Truck was a daily use vehicle for fiveteen years after that repair and never had mechanical engine problems. Sometimes you have to work with what you have when low on budget!

@@stevehicks8944 It has nothing to do with luck. It's funny to see people comment that this kind of repair will never work because they are a master technician and work in a clean shop. You don't need a clean shop to do this. They have been doing it at the side of the road on millions of different trucks for 50 years with no issues. In fact, i'd be ready to bet these trucks will probably outlive every single engine you assemble.

I find video's like this amazing. The very definition of "doing what I can with what I have" All the simplest of tools, leverage. Not even so much as a ratchet set. Let alone the power tools that modern mechanics use daily. Power ratchets and such. Impact guns, hydraulic lifts. Replacing a crank shaft on the side of the road would be unthinkable in any developed nation.

Part of the reason this looks so easy is because this drivetrain looks at least about 30 years old, when they used to make things serviceable. Now a days most things, cars especially, are built for you to be forced to take it into the dealer for maintenance. That’s a big part of why mechanics need all the fancy tools now, because they’re forced to adapt to what people want.

@@stevehicks8944 I am an educated, licensed and skilled mechanic with around 50 years of experience fixing cars, trucks, boats and much more… I have worked 8.5 years in the Seismic Industry as a senior mechanic, mosttimes in African and Middle-East countries, I KNOW in what conditions these guys have to work and I KNOW they are skilled!! Of course an overhaul is better done in a laboratory-like clean workshop…. and they know that too! But there is no such thing and the truck needs to be fixed now-now! They make the best of the situation!… and their feeling for mechanical parts is beyond doubt, make no mistakes about the mileage these vehicles make also after these repairs you critisize! How many engines I have built? I spent 5.5 years in Podgora, Croatia…. (3-2006 to 9-2011) Together with a Croatian mechanic I estimate we had around two engines taken apart…. every week… ranging from scooters and chainsaws to 20 litre Diesel engines of boats and generators…. mosttimes the job was ‘pola-general’ (meaning ‘half-overhaul’) ie. remove the head and pistons, check the condition of everything (while it is not yet broken!) clean everything, hone the cylindres, replace gaskets, valve seals and pistonrings and assemble everything…. Sometimes bigger jobs had to be done, make one decent engine out of two broken ones… and where needed we’ld take crankshafts, blocks and cylindreheads for reconditioning, boring, welding cracks aso. to a machineshop in Split. We worked mostly without documentation… relying on ‘mechanics-experience’ for torqueing bolts and judging condition of parts like bearings, cylindreheads and so on…. We gave ONE YEAR WARRANTY on every engine fixed and had very little issues…. I am sure ‘you’ know how it is all done in the ‘ideal world’…. and do a better job than ‘us’….. but while charging a multitude of what we charged many of our costumers were, and are, unable to afford that…. and are happy with our job!! If you don’t believe me call ANYONE in Podgora,Croatia, and ask them about the jobs performed by ‘Neno Budan’ (my Croatian friend) and ‘Hank mechanicar Nizozemats’ (Henk the Dutch mechanic)…. every time I go back for a holiday they BEG me to come back and stay there as a mechanic!!…. We must ‘ve done SOMETHING right….
