A 13 Day Epic Adventure exploring Currawinya National Park in outback Queensland. Join the journey as I uncover Currawinya's secrets, in part 1 discovering the Caiwarro homestead ruins, and camp at Corni Paroo Waterhole and Caiwarro Waterhole.
Cairarro ruins have a wealth of relics to uncover, from decades of beer bottles dating back as early as the 1920's, tins, motors, and the remaining homestead structures. Imagine the life of the early Sheep shearers living on this remote station.
Corni Paroo Waterhole has numerous sites to choose from along the banks, with plenty of room to canoe or swim. Plenty of birdlife around in the mornings.
Caiwarro Waterhole offers several epic camp sites and a great bushwalking experience exploring up and down the waterhole edges for wildlife and relics, including the Brolga and Major Mitchell's Cockatoo.
Join me in part 1 for my discoveries of what Currawinya has to offer the outback traveller.

Almost two years since first watching your Currawinya series I finally went over Christmas. Both lakes were full and there were birds everywhere. I managed to tick off at least twenty new to me a less than a day! Thanks for putting the video up...I would not have gone otherwise. You're right about the heat in summer! How anyone can work one day in that heat, let alone live out there full time! Thankfully I had the lake to swim in!

The early morning sounds by the waterhole are just...awesome. I close my eyes and I´m there. Your use of the mosquito net as a dining space is ingenious. I have experienced those outdoor sandwiches in the company of flies; I just kept walking about, which was not too comfortable. The fly net is nice for hiking. Thanks for another Outback Fix. :-)

You raise an interesting point, which I find very sad... adventure really is nearly dead in Australia... and the outback isn't even remote anymore. I'm reminded of a particular tree in Victoria that was once a serious 4x4 and then a good 2km hike. Being hard to get to made it feel special and an achievement. But last time I went there, no 4x4 and a gelati van was serving ice creams in the car park. There is now a board walk and a platform all around the tree.... and all as I can say is "Oh Parks... you've done it again!"
@RoamingTheOutback

haha.. all the more reason to get out there now and see as much of this country as you can! I'm sure once I'm a grey nomad I'll be thankful for cruisy roads and gelati.

Hi Brett,the road in is surprisingly good as you've said,just a little bit easier on your Defender,and your bones😉 Plenty to see for sure,and some serenity,except for the maddening flies, you sort of get used to them,only sort of. With your jacket on,doesn't look like it's warming up much in the day time? They were hard days,we're spoiled today compared.Looking forward to the next part,all the best Brett☺️

From what I've heard the flies came with white man and the livestock. They were nowhere near the same proportions pre-european. So the aboriginals would of had a paradise to enjoy.

Great video Brett, your camera and editing skills are improving by the episode. I have to ask a question mate. At the 58 second mark you pull up to the info hut and get out of your car. The shot looks like it’s from the air, possibly a drone shot. You have audio however, sounds of the car door opening and closing etc. Drones do not have mics due to the sound coming from the prop wash, so were you running another mic or seperate camera where you pulled the audio from and married them up in post? Hope to see you on the trials one day. Cheers from JAFFFA Adventures.
@RoamingTheOutback
@RoamingTheOutback 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Terry. Yes drone shot. I recorded the door slam a couple weeks after the fact as foley sound, then matched it up. I usually forget to have a audio recorder going when doing drone work.
@terryking2477
@terryking2477 5 жыл бұрын
Just exemplifies the time and effort you are putting into your creations, well done! Your method used here is the best way to go in my opinion because if you recorded the sounds in situ real time you would have the buzzing of the drone in the background. Better sounding clean as you have it. Thanks for the insight, keep it up mate.

hey Michael, as Ian stated, I forsee most "remote" parks in 35 odd year when I reach retirement age being easily accessible by 2wd cars. Bitumen is spreading across this country year by year. With bitumen, there is no real thrill or "adventure" left, as anyone can drive whatever vehicle they own to visit, no longer spending time and money kitting out 4x4 vehicles suitable to tackle the landscape.
