I bought an EX army trailer and in this video I go through my plans with this beast! I also start the first project on it, widening the axle width to suit the Patrol and also changing the hubs to suit the Patrol stud pattern! My plans with this trailer are to make a simple but awesome DIY camper! Mixing up the content to keep it fresh and I hope you guy's enjoy it!

with those size tires and rims on the trailer, your best off tossing that axle and going to a parallel bearing on a beefy axle, the small axles are known to snap with big rim and tire packages

-44 is going to be a bit nasty with bump steer and death wobble... Had 35s on 15x10 -44 steelies and it was a handful over 70kmph. I ended up moving to GU diffs with -0 offset, but Here are a few key things that helped: * Jack up the front and tighten the steering box bolt until the steering binds, then back it off a half turn. * Replace panhard rubber bushes with solid bushes. * Replace the rubber dampener in the steering coupling with a solid one (can be made from 12mm ally flat stock) * Check the bolt holes for the panhard on the chassis end, and the radius arm bolt holes on the diff to see if they are ovaled out. Tig on a washer on either side to eliminate excess play. * Obviously: Check wheel bearings, king pins and diff castor. Those superior superflex arms help a lot. * Replace tie rod ends for trailing arm. Test all the above with the steering dampener off. Hope that helps if you have any of the issues I had.

Looking forward to the trailer build mate, iwas looking at doing something similar. I have concerns with that suspension, the trailer is going to bounce around behind you like crazy with no shocks and such heavy duty leaf packs. Would be awesome to see you remove the leaf packs and replace with the weld in independent suspension arms, coils and shock kits

Quick tip bro grease isnt the best as mud and dirt will cling to to it and bind up not really a drama just a mess when replacing bolts, get ur self a couple tins of never seize or anti seize 👌

I have built a few overland/offroad trailers. Make it to what you want. Now that said. Before you start welding on it. Take your totes and a few empty boxes. And place them in and play around with the layout,and the weights. And yes the new tire and wheel setup look really good.

My dad brought the same trailer as yours back in 2014. He extended the draw bar on it so that the back door on our Prado could swing open. It has a stone guard deflector on it, two jerry can holders and a gas bottle holder mounted on the draw bar. He swapped the axle to six stud with drum breaks (which aren't functional atm). The ring coupling was definitely replaced. It has a tonneau cover as well. On our first trip out with the trailer we came across another army trailer along a dirt road that was flipped upside down, I'm guessing that they had taken the corner to fast and away it went, they were still running the original ring coupling. So that short draw bar and ring coupling I guess made it easier for it to flip. For you since you dramatically widened the track width you should be sweet. I think that it would be a good idea to try and replace the ring coupling on it if you can, it just seems that it'll improve it a lot in many ways. I can wait to see what set up do with your trailer mate!

I wouldn’t be worried about dropping a leaf. Those trailers bounce a lot on corrugated roads with those springs when empty. Still a good trailer.

If it's still to high roll the spring perches to the bottom so it's spring under like the Toy and flip center bolts.

If your taking the trailer to the beach I think it would be a good idea to wipe off the excess grease on them bolts, it will be a magnet for sand and rust

I have the same trailer but towing behind 80 series LC. You should keep that bottom 2 leafs as they are support leafs and rather take 2 middle one. Also is better to have exactly the same wheels (and rims, looks mint) so you actually have 4 spare wheels if sh@te hit the fan during travelling around Australia.

Good work, but the axle will bend as the springs are to far away from the stub axles and your running big wheels on it which won't help

@@RoamLyfe welding to it will cause the axle to crack as the heat weakens the steel, best way is to make the chassis wider and move the springs out, this will also give you more room and make the trailer more stable

@@RoamLyfe depends on steel used and wall thickness, the spring wants to be as close as possible to the stub, my car trailer is 50mm from spring to start of stub, my normal trailers are max of 100mm and thats alot, yours will Bend when 4x4 and hitting pot holes and rocks etc, you can always try it and see how it goes, just horrible when you can't tow it home ☹

I don't understand the trend for smooth trays. With all due respect, have you not just described in how impractical they are? So.. please, why? Aren't utes supposed to be useful? fwiw, it's a nice trailer, we used to tow these behind the Land Rover 110s back in the day. Army doctrine at the time forced you to only use your mirrors when reversing (presumably because many trucks don't have useful windows in the cab back) yet if you were in the 110 and reversing these in perfectly straight line, you couldn't actually see them in the rear vision mirror.. You needed some weird sixth sense to steer the thing.
