I have had my roofrack on the Jimny for over a year now, giving me plenty of time to try out and use loads of equipment on it. I wanted to take some time to talk about my experience with the Eezi Awn Batwing 270 and let you know why I am in love with it! I cover some pro's and con's in the review, and share some reasons why I love it! If you enjoy these types of videos from me, let me know down below which other pieces of gear you want me to chat about!

Hey Jason, I believe I did in the beginning. This was not an infomercial, this was my personal experience of the product. I said "You know I have a relationship with Eezi Awn, But no one asked me to make this" I was not paid to make this video.

Hi Adrian, if you can remember (think you are 2 vehicles on now), what was the length of this awning? (reason asking is I'm looking for a good one the same length as the car or sticking out a wee bit, but this one seems to stick out in front a lot....was this a 2mt awning? )

I bought the Eezi Awn Batwing 270º Awning almost three years ago. Did hundreds of camping nights and deployed the Eezi Awn more than a hundred times. It served me well for about 2.5 years, at which time a rogue wind gust destroyed it. I always use ground pegs to secure the poles - this wind was fierce. The ground pegs were pulled out of the ground and two of the Eezi Awn ribs went straight up in the air at 90º. I bought a second Eezi Awn mostly because it is a good product, however I will be much more cautious with the new Eezi Awn. I started using the screw ground pegs for secure grounding. On the replacement Eezi Awn I noticed that there is a disclaimer on the frame about not deploying the Eezi Awn in bad weather.

I love mine, and I've used it in many different environments. As with ANY awning; you have to be very cautious with wind. The bigger the awning the bigger the sail. If its dead calm, I just deploy the legs; if there is a gusting breeze I put the pegs in; if the awning starts chattering on the pegs, I pack it away just to be safe. If you want a very secure connection on the pegs; you cross them past each other through the little holes in the feet. With 2 pegs crossed you have to be in a hurricane to pull that out. My favourite thing about the Batwing; is how light it is in comparison to a lot of the other options on the market that might be abit stronger. In really bad wind, you would have to put both of them away anyways. But I am glad you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine!

Could you change the rotation of the flip flop tent by any chance, to still enable you to use the batwing awning?
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
You could, but then the batwing gets in the way of being able to properly pack away your tent, trust me, it becomes a bit of a stretch and nightmare, hence I have it the way I do with the RTT. The batwing is my absolute favourite and it kills me to not be using it all the time.

How does it handle rain specifically drainage of water from the awning?
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 3 жыл бұрын
It works fairly well, but it’s not it’s strongest point for sure. The water can get through at the pivot point and drip down the vehicle; it’s in a place that it’s not going anywhere other than down the corner of your vehicle; but it can still be frustrating if you’re in a very rainy area. But in all honesty I haven’t tested other awnings and foresee this being as issue with many of not all of them 👍🏻

Cons: It is normal ripstop canvas and is not silver coated and thus a lot hotter than other awnings It does not have a cover where the main hinge is or a channel to redirect rain water coming in against the car Does not have a centre nock lift in order to create a tent like effect, again for rain Can barely carry its own weight and thus they highly recommend “always” extending the poles
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
I have never struggled with the heat or the fact it isn’t silver coated. I used it In some pretty hectic rain after filming this video, and it handled it’s own but could use a little central lift to help the water run off. On a taller vehicle it would certainly be able to handle its own weight, but if it’s windy or raining put the legs out, it’s not like it’s difficult. It seems a lot of people are comparing it directly to the Alu Cab; which I have never used like I stated in the beginning. This has been the only one o have used and from the first day I got it, like any other person who would buy if, it’s damn impressive.

Roam Overlanding Andrew St. Pierre White has reviews on his channel. But I have the Alu-Cab and my brother has the Eezi Awn, so I have had the opportunity to compare them directly. You don’t need to use the pole on the Alu-Cab which saves tons of time. That’s not really an option with the Eezi Awn. That being said, everyone has their own preference. I swear by my awning and my brother swears by his...
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
Well “saving loads of time” now setting up the legs is more like saving 30 seconds 😂 which is like really nothing. But it would be cool to see the alu cab one day. Like I said to another viewer, which ever one you get, you would be happy with. They are both fantastic products, and their time in the industry is reflected in the quality of the products for sure.

Would love to know the difference in size? I’m torn between the two. Love the design of Alu Cab but it states it’s 2.6 m long compared to Eezi awn which says 2.3m. Would love to hear your thoughts on size when closed up in bags and mounted on the roof. Cheers.

@@paintandpinotinperth7868 AluCab is definitely bigger, when open and closed. It’s really a great awning (AluCab). Quick Pitch is also really nice.
