Күн бұрын

We left the rainy Mthunzi River Camp behind, and head off to Hlane Royal National Park. With thick clouds following us everywhere, we had to quickly try and dry out our Rooftoptent before it potentially rained again. Our Little Jimny Base camp at Hlane would really signal the beginning of our holiday. We took time to relax and watch the incredible animals at the watering hole, prepared a couple nice meals and really soaked in the experience! Soon we head to Kosi bay, stay tuned for the next episode!
Check out bit.ly/ROAMSITE for more information about the Vehicle, and to tune into the Podcast, and purchase T-shirts and Hoodies to support the Channel.

Hey man, I would seriously consider removing those rhino shots and comments. Poaching is a massive issue if you are not aware and your comments make it super inviting. Don’t mean to sound negative, your vids are awesome. Just adding a viewpoint on a serious problem, especially if you love the outdoors and wildlife.

ruddo1970 they protect them by keeping the location of all rhinos very quiet, rangers wont even use the word rhino, they use code names over the radio and tourists are generally asked not to post the location of the animals. They are poached daily no matter how protected they are, as soon as the poachers know where they are, they find a way. There is just too much money involved for them
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Brad; I was chatting to the park manager, and they havent had a Rhino Poached in almost 7 years. It appears that Eswatini's culture around poaching differs to that of South Africa. I obviously dont want to promote poaching; so in the future I will make a more concerted effect to prevent it. But I had people complain about filming at Khama Rhino Sanctuary and showing Rhino's there (Its publically known as a Rhino Sanctuary; obviously there are Rhino's there, I wanted to promote the amazing place to encourage people to visit, to help fund the sanctuary and keep their doors open so they can keep helping the Rhino's!). There is also something to be said about sharing the beauty of the animals so that people can see which animals are being effected by poaching. I think maybe I will need to use my platform to maybe be a bit more educational about the issue, thanks for commenting and getting my creative juices flowing on how to help rather than contribute to the problem! I have friends that run an anti poaching organisation that I have been wanting to do some collaboration with, so maybe it's time to make that happen sooner rather than later.
@AidanRIR
@AidanRIR 4 жыл бұрын
The park is known for rhino as are many others in this region. Poachers are not likely to be gleaming KZbin and social media to get this information. Showing a picture or video of them does not put them in any more danger than they are exposed to already. Obviously don't geotag or give numbers etc. Poachers tend to target water holes and middens and track them from there. Inside information from the reserve itself is a greater threat. Well meaning comment, however nothing given away that can't be assumed or gathered from official sources. Keep up the great work! @Roam Overlanding @Brad thanks for raising awareness for those that are not aware of the rhino poaching tragedy.

Loving your vids and am also from SA (Mossel Bay), got myself a mitsubishi triton double cab, but is not a 4x4, still wanna rig it up for overlanding though. One suggestion I would like to make is with your cooking... Spend some more time showing us what you making and how you prepping it. As you know a big part of camping is the food. So take your time and do a "cook show" style segment in your videos. Really elaborate and talk about the spices and cooking methods you use etc. Keep up the good work guys.

Perfect setup. Very compact tent / gas on top. You can make shade around. And still can't better that space. A jimmy that sips gas and it 4 wheel drive you can go very deep in the bush . and it light so if you get stuck you can easily get out. If you could get wonderful better front seat even better.

Looking at options for a roof tent on a Jimmy build. It goes without saying no matter what roof the tents on it's gonna act very similar, however how do you find the very loose suspension of the jimny when sleeping? I.e turning over in your sleep, does the car support the weight without to much rumble? Also how do you find since being in the rain would you recommend being in a clearing or having some kind of wind break? Trees, rocks etc... Great video again my man.
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
Hey bud! So I have quite a hard suspension on my vehicle so it handles quite well when we are sleeping and doesn’t blow around much in the wind. You have to be in really heavy wind for it to shake the vehicle. If you’re in a very rainy area, then the tent like the Eezi Awn Jazz, has a bigger rain sheet, maybe it will perform abit better, In wet weather, but the Series 3 is no slouch.

@@RoamOverlanding great! Thanks for the info. I'm not a big guy but I roll alot and I would be upgrading the suspension but just the stock I've seen people bobble around in them and I was just like, oh god sleeping on it would be like a water bed..hahaha. Keep on enjoying the journey, safe travels.

@@RoamOverlanding Can you give an advice when choosing racks and roof top tents. What shall we consider?
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 3 жыл бұрын
I would say; if you can help it.. Try not use a rooftop tent; they add alot of weight up top and it has a big impact on the drive and safety of the vehicle; so if you are going with a RTT use the lightest possible. The Rack from Eezi awn is great because it distributes the weight across 4 feet instead of 3 like on the competitors; so if you do put extra weight when standing (Like sleeping up there) it will put less stress on the gutter of the roof

Being a content creator is a great job! "Natalie, set up the tent while I film." "Natalie, let me shoot you making my coffee" "Natalie, cook dinner, I need more B roll." "Natalie, can you do the dishes while I talk to camera?" "Natalie, break down the camp while I shoot in 120 frames per second, slo-mo..." Next video intro: "I'm out camping solo...."

Hahah! You are too funny David. Dont worry I did most of the camp setups! But I am one lucky dude to have some a badass lady along for the ride with me.

Great episode, great route to KZN. I love outdoor cooking, I do it almost every evening albeit at home. Its often more about the process to me, the exploration around different flavours, colours and textures, like travelling, its the journey, not the destination that counts. Looking forward to the next episode.

I really love your adventures! It's been awhile since I haven't watched your vlog now I'm binge watching coz of this covid19 #stayhome. I like how you describe things and also the cooking part hehe... I don't know if you remember I messaged you in FB regarding the tires of the Jimny.... Unfortunately I still don't have my Jimny.... It's taking so looking...hahaha
