The mere fact that this vehicle looks so tact & basic, I so love it! Nothing superfluous, nothing that is too much! Just the good stuffs that one actually needs for any driver with an old soul for proper driving & to survive the course. Cheers & mabuhay from tropical Philippines!

I carry 2 duffel bags for clothes (him / her), a pop up dome tent, a 3m x 3m marquee, a double sized 3D mattress, trangia stove, a bag full of freeze dried hiking meals (these are great), KA-Bar knife, pruning saw, "bog-out" recovery system, foot pump, 20l water jerry and a 12v cigarette socket w/ alligator clips so I can charge directly off the battery because the internal sockets don't have enough power to charge properly. As nice as it is to have a fridge, I find that trying to maintain the contents and cook recipes to be a real pain, whereas with the hiking meals we can just pick what we want to eat and add hot water. Supplement this with local fruit or bakery food etc wherever we go and we're good. Just got back from a 7 day trip like this and it worked great for us.
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah the hiking meals are a good solution for some; for us they cost a huge amount of money and it would be cheaper just to buy the groceries. But it is certainly something to consider...

@@RoamOverlanding I wait for them to go on sale then buy a few hundred dollars worth, don't mind storing them as emergency rations in case something happens. End cost is about $8 AUD a plate which is about the same price as a big mac.

Love the simplicity. For the last 20+ years I’ve been traveling with a lot of stuff that I’ve never used or used very seldom, for example an axe m, hi-lift jack and two long recovery straps. Never used them. Ive dumped it all including the trailer. On my latest vehicle I’ve gone back to basics and don’t carry a lot of stuff any more. So much better.

Brave move! I think we will see some trimming of my kit at some point too; who knows. It just depends on what I end up finding necessary or not. I think there will also end up being a setup for me when I travel solo and one for when I travel with Natalie.

It's amazing how much stuff will fit such a small square box because that's exactly what these great little trucks are. A square box. I also like that you have some Blue Ridge Overland gear. You’ve done well with such a small truck I have a series Landrover SWB which makes a jimmy look huge. love the first aid kit on the headrest. Personally I like my recovery gear in 2 places on under drivers seat or in a bag on the spare wheel. Fast to get too when needed but out the way also recovery gear gets dirty I like to store it outside the vehicle if possible it looks lovely in a draw when new and clean but I don’t Fancy putting it back once it’s wet and muddy also what if you can’t open a door to open a draw. Also have you considered a cargo barrier? Enables you to stack high and you can attach stuff to it on both sides and have you considered a fridge cage to stop things falling behind it when you pull it out and lastly try a net to hold soft stuff to the roof
@RoamOverlanding
@RoamOverlanding 4 жыл бұрын
A cargo net is going in soon; 2 gullwings with boxes too to give more vertical storage and then yeah definitely looking at an alternative place for the recovery gear; a bag on the wheel isn’t a bad idea 👌🏻 let’s see how things go. Thanks for tuning in!

Hi lifts arnt great. They are an awful jack a bottle jack under the axle is much safer quicker and easier to store and lighter. Plus you dont need big steel bumpers and rock sliders to use it on. You can use them as a winch but they are slow hard work and tricky to set up. I brought one years ago and then sold it years later haven’t used it a couple of times and realising how rubbish they are

That’s where the side steps really help too. A tip for you though. Is to climb onto the front or Rear wheel, it gives you a good boost up and honestly access to almost everything. The Eezi Awn Ladder on the rear also helps for some additional access. The standard plastic bumpers I wouldn’t want to stand on, but my metal rear bumpers I stand on all the time 👌🏻

Can you recommend that battery box system to a weekend camper, I go camping 3-4 times a year...But I do go to the farm once a month near the central Kalahari in Botswana..I really like simplicity

I definitely do; it’s so versatile and really efficient. You can put in up to 160AH battery too if I recall correctly. It’s a good load shedding saver too. Plugging in the solar panel is simple; and it’s managed through the DCDC system so it keeps the battery safe. I would recommend getting the National Luna 5A wall charger to keep your battery pluggged into while you aren’t using it to keep the battery in good order, so your battery will last for years! 👍🏻 head to bit.ly/NLDC25 to read up abit more on it but the site has loads of information for you too

I really like the rear folding table and how you fixed the angle issue. Can you advise where I can buy one?

Great video! Your narration is much more interesting than the music, and it tends to drowned you out a little bit. Background music should be just that. Always look forward to your next video. Best Wishes.

Thanks John! I have become more confident with this more recently, opting to leave music out for conversational pieces
