They sit on the ice and wait for it to rear up on its hind legs and roar, then aim for the roof of its mouth and fire. Russian sailors once tried to scare off an adult male polar bear off their sub after they had emerged from under the ice. The warning shot did not scare it. Then they shot at it with 10mm Makaraovs, and it ignored it even after getting hit with several shots. They resorted to a 12.5mm machine gun, thats roughly the same as a .50 cal Browning M2. That just pissed it off, and the bear started climbing the conning tower to get to the crew. They chose to go back inside and just submerge rather than try to fight an angry polar bear. They eventually found out the bear later died from its wounds, but it had lived long enough to travel about 20 miles, even with more than a dozen gunshot wounds. So even if you hit it with your eagle, unless you got a lucky shot to the eye and into the brain, it will most certainly live long enough to really make you wish you brought a hand grenade instead.

@@Scudboy17 I know how gunshot wounds for Polar Bears typically work, I'm just saying that I don't believe for a second that an anti-materiel round like 12.7x108 coming out of a machine gun would not have put down the bear almost instantly. Those Russian sailors are either the worst shots in the Russian Navy that only nailed one shot out of dozens in one of its legs or something... or they were doing what sailors often do, and were just telling a story.

No, see, that's what the wolf DNA mentioned in the voice recorder was for. To make the bears form packs. Edit: And then you explain that at length later...

I'm thinking the best method of fighting back would be like the strategy used in the movie the edge. Long spear braced against the ground. Use the bears momentum to stab it. People in the group will die but there's a good chance of the bear going down. If it bleeds we can kill it.

Have a feeling it was more motivated by another bargain bin monster movie about an overly large tiger eating people in some remote town called "Maneater" that came out in 2007, only like eight years before this movie. I doubt it got much in the way of an international release, so the name was probably free everywhere BUT the US. (it was *also* a weird movie, and starred Gary Busey for some reason)

4:40 No. You had it right. I'd much rather deal with an angry polar bear, than a angry moose. The bear might get bored or find something better/easier to eat. The moose is just going to be angry untill you are no longer able to make it angry.

Fan from Alaska here. I had similar issue with heat when my first trip out of state took me down to Vegas in the summer. I hit the wall of heat stepping out at it was so hot compared to my normal that brain decided it was a solid wall. Also moose are absolutely adorable, but shifty as hell. Don't trust those big doe eyes and giant eyelashes. They are a snapped twig too close away from stomping you and everything around you into mush especially when they have a young calf.

Hey roanoke thanks you for explaining this film when i watched the movie myself i was quite confuse how much wolf dna was added to this creature and why it was too agressive and always hungry but one thing is for sure they created something way more powerful than a standard polar bear except its ability to self sustain itself in an enviroment with very little to no food sources around and yes the main characters should use bigger rounds to take this thing down instead of the lower power multipliyers they had on disposal

I was at the zoo and saw a polar bear walk out of view. Totally thought he was going to take a nap or something, so turned away. A few moments later i turned back to get my sister's attention, just in time to see the male polar bear walk right past us at the glass. I knew he was big. I'd seen him before on other trips before. But that size just hits different when you see it by surprise. Polar bears are terrifying.

I think the reason that the film is called Maneater isn’t because they thought we couldn’t handle it, but cuz there is already a B-movie around here called Maneater about an escaped circus tiger and someone got litigious during production.
