I always liked that the aliens in Signs lose in a single night... which is exactly what you'd expect if you sent an invasion into an environment that is saturated with super acid. It makes the invasion seem more like a desperation move rather than a well-planned, long-term invasion (War of the Worlds would be a better example of aliens plotting and planning long in advance, but still losing to what should be common sense to an advanced species). They don't stick around and try to fight it out, they go in, realize they're completely unprepared, and then leave. 12-hour invasion.

An interesting fan theory I've heard is that the original twist of the film was going to reveal that the "Aliens" were actually Demons. They have cloven hooves, can't open doors on their own, get burned by water in the house of a holy man. The central character arc involves the protagonist resolving his crisis of faith. It really does kinda feel like they were something else that got retooled into aliens halfway through production.

The original form of the script did have the aliens turn out to be demons, and the reason the water worked against them was not because it was in the Reverend's house, but because he blessed his daughter's water so she would actually drink some of it before deciding that it was contaminated. It was later rewritten to the creatures being aliens, and not demons, and references to him blessing the water removed to appeal to a wider audience, and thus the twist of "The Aliens are actually demons" became "The Aliens are allergic to water."

When people ask how could such an advanced species be this dumb I’m reminded of a scene in Stargate SG1 where the asgardians basically ask humanity for help because they’re too evolved and can’t think of the necessary plan to beat something. Basically they needed us because we’re dumb and do dumb things that somehow work. These guys are so advanced that simple things got in there way. Kinda like how most of us are so used to our modern lifestyle that making a simple spear or mud hut would be impossible for us.

I did that to my father once. He was in the bathroom taking a shower. I decided to hide in the dark outer room behind a dresser. When he came out, I went to whisper something creepy to startle him, but ended up choking on my saliva. The noise that came out of my mouth was unnatural, to say the least. He yelped in fear and ran downstairs. He nearly broke the staircase banister in the process. It was pretty bad. He was spooked. 😂

08:27 was the moment that scarred every child born in 1995. Legit scarred. I legit have PTSD of old KZbin style videos thanks to this moment and I know everyone born in 95 is too. What made it so god damn terrifying as a kid, was the fact it looked so real. Just how natural the setting looked, the way it just casually came out and walked past. It actually took me out of the movie to freaking out in real life. Might I add, at the time we didn't have super fast WiFi, google, smart phones or social media. This is something that added to horror films especially as a kid, we couldn't look things up. We wasn't connected to the world 24/7. We had 1 PC for the internet the entire family shared, i dont remember the chat rooms we used but we had things like MSN and ATOL i believe or something can't actually remember. So yeah, things like this as a kid was easily believable and we had no means of being connected to the world like we are today. I mean I can stay up to date with the world 24/7, talk to people all over the world in a matter of seconds and it is sat right in my pocket. Can use it at anytime. This film and one other legitimately scared the sh*t out of me as a kid, the other film is called Fragile. Again watched it as a kid. I have never seen anyone talk about it, so I assume it didn't do too well. But, let me tell you when we finally see the ghost in the film, I screamed the house down and proceeded to sh*t my panties, soak the sofa and spray the damn wall. That thing scared me so much I didn't sleep for months. Fortunately it was so long ago I forgot what it looked like and no one can send images in the comments. But yeah, the 2 only films that genuinely freaked me out as a kid. I'd like to add, in my defence the movie fragile was set on the Isle of Wight. I lived in Southampton, legit the red funnel was used in a scene. She was in Southampton to get to the IOW!!! It was way too close for comfort!! 😅🤣 I must admit the movie name was excellent, as it was relatable, I was the fragile one.

I believe you. Something about the scene surprised me. It doesn’t bother me much now; but back then, even as a teen when the movie came out. It had something about it that made me feel a bit shocked. To me it also feels that part of it was also Joaquin Phoenix making the shocked expression as the character watching the video, along with the dark of the theater being dark in contrast with the film. The other film that bothered me back then was The Ring. Once more, it had to do with the abrupt timing of the scenes in that movie such as suddenly turning the chair around and seeing how the evil demon girl turned a person into a decayed corpse or something.

I always wondered about the aftermath after the invasion is over and now there's a dead alien body in your living room. And they also took a chance going outside at the end since they didn't know for sure if any other aliens got left behind and were still in the corn field. They're like the least guarded family in that regard. Imagine going back into your house and what to do with the alien body. I'd take a few more swings at the head myself just to make sure. It would've been interesting to see a sequel from the point of view of the armed forces fighting during the invasion. Like how well did our guns and technology do against the alien warriors before they retreated and were the aliens winning at some point during the invasion that was happening. I know the movie was more about losing and regaining one's faith, but a strictly sci-fi sequel about the invasion would'be been cool to see.

@@Leviathan56 would be cool to see a sequel from a different perspective too. I know in 2020, Rory Culkin said he'd be down for a sequel. Not that I'd care to see the Hess family yet again, but I'd take any sequel just to see more footage of the aliens and ships.
@ShadowHunter31 Жыл бұрын
@@stephensmith8316 Sequel is probably them coming back after a few years. Yeah, we got some alien bodies but they also kidnapped humans as well. And like I explained in another post, I always thought they didn't want to conquer the Earth right away. They came to learn more about us. They showed their ships hovering for a few days and never attacked until that one night. Otherwise, they were hiding, most of the time, in forests, cornfields, etc. Then the night came and they tried to subdue and take as many people as they could. Maybe their toxin wasn't even deadly. Could have been used to knock people out and then take them to their ships. The dude on the radio literally mentions that a lot of people were missing and that some of them were brought to their ships.

The guy on the radio said “this wasn’t a invasion this was a raid they came here for us” which makes sense humans have protein which can not be found anywhere else in the galaxy so far, so the aliens saw the risk but realized the reward was worth the risk

if they need protein and it can't be found anywhere else aside from earth, how do the aliens exist
@XenonPrimeSBSV3 жыл бұрын
@@BeefMeisterSupreme Could be various hormones or other aspects of our biochemistry that are valuable. Consider adrenaline, if they don't have an equivalent but could use it somehow could make humans a valuable source of what would be to them an incredibly valuable combat drug. Humans have biological processes that make us incredibly hardy compared to most other life, comparatively speaking it's difficult to kill a human. That could be valuable and worth the risk of a raid.

In South Park, the Aliens landed in Africa, and the lions and tigers just ate them. This movie's promo was scary thought.

I mean, realistically, that would probably happen here, as well. If they landed in Africa or Australia, they'd probably have several fights before they even meet the armed forces. One is a land of assassins and tanks, and the other is a land of poison and venom

Funny story about this movie, I was around 7 or 9 when I watched this, my sister is 1 year younger than me. I grew up on the Navajo reservation so pretty much Noone around for a few miles and only light was from the "street lights" outside. So my sister was walking back in at night after going outside to grab something from the truck, while walking by the truck I hid behind it and did the clicking sounds the aliens from this movie do. Damn I never seen her so scared or cry so hard in my life😂😂

Maybe the invading aliens originated from a desert planet and thus had a higher water absorption factor on their skin to compensate for the much drier air from their home planet, thus making their cells burst when in contact with a higher concentration of water
@ArDeeMee Жыл бұрын
Counterpoint: Skin doesn’t explode from water exposure, even over long timespans. There is always a limit to how much moisture can be absorbed, because cells don’t like destroying themselves without a good reason. That’s also why we have so many layers working together as „skin“, it’s a security measure so that one destroyed layer isn’t much of a problem. There’s the other layers keeping you intact.
