Who Cares ? (That My Heart Is Aching) Fox Trot (Ager /Yellen) -- Arthur Lange & His Orchestra, Cameo 1923 (USA; accoustical recording)
NOTE: This song was a great Al Jolson's hit from Lee Shubert's musical production "Bombo", which was staged in New York City, in 1922. Here, it is played by Arthur Lange's orchestra; Lange (1889 -- 1956) was an American bandleader and composer, who composed music for over 120 films, including Grand Canary and Woman on the Run. Lange shared an Oscar nomination with Hugo Friedhofer for the film The Woman in the Window. During the first half of the 1920s Lange recorded for Cameo Records. His 1923 orchestra performed at the Cinderella Ballroom on Broadway. Lange himself played both piano and banjo and was also a prolific arranger of dance band orchestrations during the 1920s. His orchestrations were in use by many bands. Lange wrote "Arranging for the Modern Dance Orchestra" which was the definitive work of its day (published in 1926).
The slideshow presents photographs of the sad faces of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin & Harold Lloyd - three silent movie era comedians, who were never so amusing to the audience, as when "their heart was aching".
