Guitar player here. I’m the guitarist and lead singer of a punk rock band and I always thought that the bass was sort of a bone headed instrument. Then in late 2022 I went on tour with a friend’s band filling in on bass as their bassist was experiencing “circumstances” and I’m here to tell you that playing bass well is FAR harder than playing guitar in my view. Also it made my fingers hurt like hell. It was like the last 20 years of guitar playing that I had meant nothing. I found myself wrapping my fingers and hands in bandaids and medical snd bleeding all over the place like the victim of a slasher. It was an hell of a four months. Also, anecdotally, I received far less free weed and hooked up with many fewer girls than I did as a guitarist. It’s true, bass playing is hard and thankless work. But it’s good work, if you can get it.

That dig at violin players hit me hard in the memories. I played piano and learned it at an institute, and our examinations were rehearsals held in an auditorium, with the parents and teachers and guests making up the audience. Usually we went by level/years of study, with a small range of levels represented. The violin players were BRUTAL to listen to, even up to a few years in the Conservatoire. None of the kids were playing in key, it was just... Baffling, for me especially since I had a very good ear, and because, well, I played piano. Can't play the piano off key, just hit the right keyes and you're good, so it's definitely an advantage in learning to play. But I felt so bad for the kids (and teachers and parents I guess) with their little violins that butchered some classical sheet music for everyone to hear. So yeah, freaking frets would help 😂 love the videos Adam, thx for all the great content over the years.

I played cello as a kid and I always put little training marks on my fingerboard and I was always given so much grief for it, but I was also the only one who consistently played in tune, so These days I just mark it in graphite pencil so you have to be up close to see it.

Thanks, Adam - I was able to refine my slapping technique because of this video. I already knew about sea Bass from living on the FLA(Far Lower Alabama) Gulf Coast in Panama City Beach. My parents lived on the other side of St Andrews Bay(Panama City was originally called St Andrews), My Dad loved fishing for Speckled Trout, which my Mom insisted on overcooking and making me hate it - mostly because she insisted that cooking it with the bones in tasted better; but what it did was make consuming the ruined fish a chore. I learned to make small salads because of this, which is with me to this day and helps keep me healthy. Not a Foodie but I still love fish, though; here in Seattle salmon is widely available; I just barely cook it with some red onion, lemon slices and sprinkle a bit of Lowery's Garlic salt(with parsley in it) after cooking. And some spinach or Broccoli. I love your videos because you throw in so much interesting and useful information; so much that I have to limit myself. Do keep up the good work. I liked finding out that you make music; I don't know if you've checked out Spanish Rock music, but there's really good stuff almost everywhere. I currently listen to Soda Stereo, an older Argentine trio; and the Mexican Wunderkinder power trio from Monterey, The Warning. Gotta go, I have stuff to do and people to annoy...

There's evidence suggesting that the Oud originates from pre-islamic Persia and not the islamic world. Even the name likely originates from Persian, being similar to other string instruments like the Sitar or the Dutar. Tar meaning string and Si and Du describing the number of strings respectively. Through proximity alone though, it is likely that there was co-devolopment and indeed it did arrive in Europe through the ways you mentioned, where it developed into the Medieval Lute.

In Dutch, a "barst" is the sharp cracks that form in ceramic or ice. "Baars" is our word for this type of fish. Which is very close to the original proto-germanic, as is much of our language, English and German diverged away more.

Now, whenever you play the bass, be careful to always play fingerstyle and never with a pick because... nnNNO!!! IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER OR NOT YOU'RE USING A PICK! Sometimes the extra treble onset is preferred depending on the mix, but much of the time nobody will be able to tell! On top of that, some bass instruments are traditionally played with a plectrum like the bass balalaika, which is played with a leather plectrum! Just play the instrument however you're able to because whether or not you're using fingers or a pick isn't even something that anyone's listening to!

@phyphorАй бұрын
I came here to say this, but I'm glad someone else got there first! The Double Bass is the only member of the viol family that is part of the modern orchestra, and, somewhat ironically, doesn't have "viol' as part of its name, unlike the violin, viola, or violoncello.

@SharmaYelvertonАй бұрын
Loved this. Comical watching you cook with a bass strapped on. 😂 Just to nerd you up one more level, the double bass is actually from the viol family (that of the viola de gamba) rather than the violin family. Admittedly these two families also have a shared ancestor but they existed simultaneously for some time. The double bass is the only remaining modern instrument from the viol family. You ever noticed how its geometry is different to that of a cello? It's not just a bigger version. 😊

ב''ה, great video as always, jumping out at me is - The bok choy/pak choy has some oxalate to it, so oxalate-reducing tricks for chard can help the texture, but the leafiness also inevitably traps field dirt down in the head so heartily recommend a quick rinse after chopping the leaves free. Does look like you got the cleanest hydroponic? heads possible, but on average a step to recommend. I'm a sucker for trying to wedge the citrus in and forget it but the hotter that lemon gets the more bitter it's going to get, so either find a Meyer, use an orange or Clementine/Mandarin or other sweet citrus, or slotting it in for the last five minutes only may improve the result.

Song is from *Willy Wonka* ("Come with me... And you'll see...") I have an *Earnie Ball* bass... Arguably the "best" but, a P-bass has a particular tone that just fits right, as well. You said "200°F, 400°C" and people just need to realize that is reversed. 400°f is right to roast a fish. 😉 The back fin is the dorsal fin, the two front fins, one either side are the pectoral fins. My friend and band mate got to our area and his first time he saw "Bass Pro Shop" he went in expecting to find a guitar, he was quite surprised when he found fishing gear. 😆
