Roasted red pepper, Grasello venetian plaster with gold wax

If you were to make a backsplash, I would imagine that the wax would melt being behind the stove. What kind of protection do you recoment that would be more heat resistant or durable against hot elements that could splash up against the wall?

Do you get less swirling when applying wax with trowel I used a rag to apply the wax
