Mattress on the floor is a purely practical safety issue! When we get home, drunk out of our minds, we don't want to fall out of bed when we forget to hold on to it, smacking our unconcious head on the floor... If we used bedframes, we could easily fall an additional several inches, increasing the risk of serious drunk-dude injuries...

I also hurt if i lay on something too comfortable. I fell 30 feet off a roof years ago and destroyed my back. The older i get the more it hurts. I decided to get a new mattress thinking it would help. It didnt. I decided to buy a nice memoey foam mattress topper thinking it would help. It didnt. I went out and bought a junk army style cott and it feels better to sleep on than my expensive mattress and memory foam topper. Now id rather sleep on my cott with my sleeping bad and a tiny camping pillow than my comfy mattress.

I've always had a bed frame no matter what. I'm 6'4 and I always hated having to pull my self off the floor to get my day started. Plus I like the feeling of being elevated while being asleep. Whole reason my first bed after moving out of my parents place living with a room mate was actually one of those padded hammocks that are supported by a metal frame that I found on classifieds for $50. Also that was Satoru Iwata in that one dank image that is from like 15 years ago 4chan, he was the late former president of Nintendo.
