Leslie, you're my kitchen kindred spirit! I always clean up on the fly. Working in a very small kitchen, it's pretty much imperative if I want any counter space at all, but it's just wise and destresses the whole cooking/baking process. :)

Leslie, Love the cooking shorts, I used to make those little cookies for the young ones they loved them. Rob love the carols especially in a cathedral like that magical. I have watched you both from the beginning and love what you are doing with one of the prettiest Chateau in France. We make shortbreads use vanilla, shape into fingers and dip into chocolate or add chopped pecans and sprinkle with icing sugar when baked,yum.🤗💕

My aunt used to make a buttercream frosting and put a little cherry juice in and some chopped cherries. She would buy a premade angel food cake and ice it with that icing 😋 We always had it every Christmas.

My shortbread recipe was my Mom's and is the same as yours, with one exception. When I put the dough on the cookie sheet I press my thumbprint into the center and fill the depression with seedless raspberry jam. Delish! Good alternative for people who don't care for maraschino cherries.

I also had a recipe scrap book which I compiled in the 70's after I was newly married. Its hard to remember life before the internet and access to information at your fingertips. I had a knock off encyclopedia for reference. Despite modern times my grandchildren aren't any smarter and with AI, I fear the next generation will be less resourceful and less intellectually astute.
