We were in France when Notre Dame burned and it made us cry. Seeing her reborn and now being the only gothic cathedral where we can see how they looked when they were built. Wrong. Do some research into how Cathedrals appeared, during the Middle Ages. The interior does not look like it did during the 14th century. Cathedral interiors were not open, but sectioned off according to their liturgical purpose. The interior one sees today, is a modern concept, and not what one would have seen in Medieval Paris, or any other European Cathedral.

Those who saw the stones untarnished back then couldn't see the finished cathedral, and by the time it was finished the stones were already a little bit tarnished

If you want to see a very well preserved Gothic cathedral, you can go to Chartres and visit Notre Dame de Chartres. This cathedral is considered the best preserved in France.

The artisans who restored this beautiful cathedral are truly the best. It’s been 50 years since I visited Notre Dame. It was beautiful despite being dark. This coming March will mark 50 years since I visited Notre Dame as a teenager, on a school trip! It looks like they have even restored the bas-relief saints around the entryways; one thing that struck me then was that the heads had been cut off many of them by souvenir hunters. The whole cathedral looks so bright and clean! It is very moving to see. I would love to visit it again. Thanks for taking us all along with you there!

Thank heaven the French used such integrity restoring the art and architecture (and music) to us all! Your beautifully filmed tour was truly a treasure!! Thank you so much for posting this Vivianne. I spent a lot of time in Paris in 1976-7 & returned with my son in 1986. I used to go to Mass at Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon & stay for the Bach organ recital at 5pm after Mass. it was magical. For me as I watched the fire on my office computer in horror, all I could say was “the organ, the organ”. I was overjoyed to learn it survived, such a wonderful instrument. I wonder if those Bach recitals will continue? I am retired now , in my late 70s, and will never have a chance to revisit - like you, I am struck by the difference, the wonderful glow that the cathedral seems to have. I visited York Minster after the fire having visited before as well. And the same for Windsor. I wish I could do the same for Notre Dame but I will have to be satisfied by all the videos that appear on YT! Your video was truly beautiful.
