USPS shut down the regional sorting office in our Illinois community of 40,000 with a total regional population of over 80,000 people. They moved the sorting office to the capitol of our state, Springfield, which is 120 miles away. If I mail a letter from one side of town to the other (about two miles), it has to be trucked to Springfield to be sorted, then returned to our local post office for delivery. On average, it takes between 2 and 3 days for that letter to be delivered two miles. That's what the USPS calls efficient! We'd do better with the Pony Express!
