When I saw Norm live in Las Vegas a couple years ago he didn’t want to go off stage. He mentioned he was so happy doing live comedy. He had a piece of paper with a few words on it and he was just so off cuff yet KILLING IT! I think finally after 2 hours he ended the show but really made it a point for the audience to know how much joy and appreciation he had for getting to do what he loved- making comedy and making people laugh.

Just as you don't feel your cells failing long before manifestation becomes apparent, the remaining organism functions ever so much less in unison or harder to replace the failure and loss. If you don't feel it yet, you're probably an exo cell which we shed daily and we cope. Some are cancerous and we recover a bit but all deaths have a bio/genomic and geo/magnetic effect on those whom remain. I can't yet speak for Norm or my father or the sons, daughters, mothers. fathers. children who become worm fodder or parts of the air we breath but no one dies alone.

I've been binging on Norm again, since his passing. He said he had the most fun doing Schneider films (even moreso than Adam Sandler films, which were talked about in the same bit), because he said Ron gave him the most leeway and just let him riff as much as he wanted. It was almost a Sandler diss, I guess indirectly implying that Sandler was more of a perfectionist type that ran the show, and therefore not as much fun to work for. That was one of the most refreshing and rare things about Norm - his honesty about people and situations. he was usually tactful enough, but he had an easy bluntness and didn't beat around the bush or dodge things like most actors and show biz people do. They are just so scared to piss off the wrong person, they never actually say anything real. Norm was always real.

I just rewatched the Sandler, Norm, and Adam Eget episode of Norm Live and Norm said something during the convo that gave the vibe about Sandler dictating the scene for a movie (starring the classic Happy Madison crew) as if he where the director (when there was a separate official director). It is also interesting hearing a few remembrances for Norm mention him as being a perfectionist. It's weird comparing that information to how these guys appeared so laid back in their typical roles.

How could he divulge Norm having cancer if he didn't know about it? What i got from Schneider was him saying that norm was a gambling addict that owed him 25 grand but he let it slide. Then he mentions norm having something in his bathroom that he shouldn't have had, and THEN he talks about addicts and says but you don't think someone will die from it ( addiction). Wtf!

I was spot op on that last show Rob was talking about. Someone came on comms right before Norm and said, "He's going to stand their, motionless, with an unlit cigarette the whole act. Right about the time you lose concentration from doing nothing he's going to lean out of your focus to light the cigarette. Be vigilant." I fell asleep at the wheel right as he leaned out to (not) light the grit. I will always remember how happy all those guys were to be on stage together again. It was genuine joy and love.

I just realized Rob Schneider dropped a bombshell when he said "I just wanted to check in Norm's medicine cabinet...and see if he was doing anything...and there were some things in the sink and that's when I realized that something was going on." Rob starts telling that at 22:45 Now this brings a dozen things that I saw Norm say on various shows in the last number of years. One was, "I think all those Xanax I took before I came out are kicking in." But Norm would put the comic emphasis on "XANAX", so you didn't know...but later he's make another reference to it. Another time he said right in the middle of an interview, as his nose was sniffling a little bit, "That COCAINE I took is not working..." again with the comedic emphasis and Norm sparkle. Certainly keeping that secret of his cancer anyone would say, "What the hell, why not some blow, why not some Xanax to level me out?" Hell, I did coke and Xanax for years just because it FELT GOOD. I Love you, Norm. You were so very much loved---I hope you knew that.

This was a great little memoriam from a true friend. I love that Rob didn’t attempt to canonize him or remember a legend. He remembered his friend warts and all. He remembered his friend for who he was and I loved how he defined the Anglo tradition in the Americas. It’s not allowed to be discussed today but, there is a rich culture that is foundational to the country and the quadrant of the world we inhabit here. The culture is a deeply stoic culture and one that does adhere to at least a modicum and code of gentlemanliness. I speak for the stoic individuals like Norm that for many generations now, are adherent to who their elders and ancestors were and how their expectations are left to the living world and we their progeny are able to fulfill to keep the fires of Pentecostal traditions forever alive. I’ve gone a bit deep and especially towards the end but, Rob Schneider seems to have given the very best tribute to a friend from his heart.

I love how he was able to keep his illness just between his Mom, brother and son. Good for him. Of course, people are blind at times, they joke about weight or lack of weight, they just don't see. You can see it but not if you don't want too. His mom's pain had to be awful, no parent wants to lose a child. I love the videos between them.

There were times that he was wearing multiple layers of clothes, even when it was warm. Sometimes he was sweating or had bad color. People accused him of doing drugs. Now we know. He was the Charlie Parker, “Bird”, of comedy. One of a kind, one of the best ever. I especially loved it when the audience didn’t get it…because once you tuned into Norm, got on his wavelength, you ALWAYS got it…because you got him. Letterman said it best when he said, “He exuded comedy.” Your internal laugh engine just started up when he took the stage…you just got ready because you knew it was coming…. Norm Macdonald was one of a kind. He had a very unique style and personality. He stood out of the pack because in an industry where everyone sounds the same and is copying each other he was unique, even though he was probably influenced and/or copying comics and entertainers from the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. There is some Dean Martin in his style and delivery that made him easy to watch and listen.

When Norm last appeared on Spade's late night show, it was obvious he was 'sick.' I only just saw it yesterday, but from seeing people with cancer before, it was obvious he was in the late stages of it.

I think if anyone really liked him or cared, they'd see it. I see it with people I don't know that well. When it's all about you, you don't see it. He didn't have close buddies but his manager knew and he had enough confide in without needing superficial friends. Even with Robin Williams, you had to see his disintegration. His last movie, they all said they saw things. Care, IDK?

He had gambling but never drank or did drugs although he joked so much about it people didn't see it. Even on stage, he had "fake liquor". I admire that about him. He didn't tempt the addiction god with anything else.

Lots of people talk about getting high with Norm (weed). The breadcrumbs were all there, he told stories to fit the moment ...

If you want to see Norm at his best .go to Howard Stern clip of the jungle War joke .so much talent .all is letterman,Conan visits were great .a joy to see on stage, big screen and tv.was truly taken back by this brothers passing .not like most celebraties with the biz but gave us that show.Father,storyteller,comedian, entertainer but a good guy to anyone I've ever heard talk about him.RIP Norm and thank you for using your gift

Many comedians come and go, but Norm is one those guys, that has a ledgend to him, even before his death. Many many comedians have tall tales, and stories of Norm. Norm's didn't get "bigtime money fame" but he had the respect of his peers, and loyal fans, for not being a sell out, which makes him even more famous.
