I feel sorry for you that this was your first Halloween movie watching. I didn’t hate this, but watching the original first was a special experience. I haven’t really liked any Halloween movie again since H20. I do however enjoyed the 2018 version I guess the most out of Resurrection, and Zombie’s double Halloween movies. I consider this the trailer trash Myers era, too violent, too vulgar, but I’m one of the few who liked Zombie’s Halloween 2 compared to the first one. Maybe because it seemed like a newer idea, and I really hated that young Myers kid from the first one.

Finally rewatched the theatrical cut for the first time in 14 years and I remembered why I liked the movie on initial watch. I think it's a pretty good introduction to a humanized version of Myers and I actually felt bad for him. I liked the explanation of the obsession with masks too. And there was a good variety of kills too. Annie's assault is pretty gut wrenching because she ends up covered in blood but you have no idea what Michael did to her, only that it paralyzed her where she couldn't even talk. And I love endings where Michael is definitively killed, and I marked out when Laurie pulled the trigger and the blood splattered on her face and she was screaming. I also liked that maybe Michael was helping Laure aim the gun too, because he was probably just too tired and knew he had no reason to live.

I respect what Zombie did with his interpretation of Halloween, but I love the concept of Michael Myers being a form of evil with no explanation, like the Joker in The Dark Knight, he’s a man who just wants to watch the world burn, he’s given no backstory, only up to the viewer’s opinion, Michael Myers was created as an incarnation of evil, that’s it, nothing else, which I personally find more frightening. He’s evil because he’s evil, not because of a rough upbringing.

@HolsovanUltimate3 жыл бұрын
@@tharealest8190 Are you daft? In a horror movie setting, we as humans are afraid of the unknown, that in which we cant explain. The fact that Michael has no reason for what he does is what makes him so damn frightning. You cant reason with him, he only kills. Thats the point.

If you're lucky you die quickly but if not he defiles you.

You nailed right on the head. When Debra Dies, Michael Myers Died and The Shape/The Boogeyman is born. When i saw this movie i was 23 and already have been invested in the series for 16 years at that point. That was one of the 1st things i thought of, cause i was extremely close to my Mom and their relationship just resonated with me. Also the "Ugliness" Michael says of Himself, is that evil growing inside of him, cause whenever he kills, he is wearing the mask and he feels like he can maybe hide it from the world. The rage that Loomis would talk about, was physically worn on Michael's face, especially after Mikey kills the Nurse and His Mom lifts the mask off his face and he is clearly in a Raging Demonic Episode. This was a great representation of him turning into the Evil he is described as being.

I like Rob Zombie’s take on it. It was one of the first times we got to see Michael Myers be brutal (unlike the other previous films, they didn’t show him being brutal with his kills, just sort implying it). We got a backstory on why Michael is the way he is. He came from a “bad home” where violence was common in his home. It took a child who seemed to be good kid but his environment broke him and he found an outlet of his own, more violence. More graphic than what he was experiencing. He wanted to hurt those that hurt him and then losing his mom (who he loved so much) was his breaking point. Once she died, he lost what little joy he had in life left. He became a shell of man with nothing to live for except his baby sister Boo. He had a bond with her and that what was left of the what made him happy as a kid. Once she rejected him (not knowing that was her actual brother) and after knowing he attacked her friends, he was the caused of her being traumatized, just like their mother was by his actions.

Rob Zombie's version was the absolute worse. He reduced Michael's motivation to being from a dysfunctional family. He moved about like Leather-Face, as oppose to the ghostly sleepwalking type boogieman. I guess we could appreciate the visuals, like the mask and the poster. It had good parts, but on a whole it was crappy. It felt like it was geared specifically for a Rob Zombie audience. Rob Zombie's other movies were classics, but HALLOWEEN was Zombie out of his lane. He's trying to turn a mystery into a demystified common serial killer. HALLOWEEN was a project for someone who understands how to create an unseen, stalking mysterious dreadnought that moved in and out of the shadows. Zombie's films had killers who were real humans, but very, very twisted. Thats what Zombie's Michael seemed like, versus being a supernatural force of nature. In fact, "House of 1000 corpses" would have worked as the soundtrack for Zombie's M.MYERS. And an element that was ignored in most of the sequels was Michael's eyes. Not seeing his eyes, but just darkness, added to his mystery. I'm sure RZ had fun making this movie. When regular hardcore HALLOWEEN fans understand who RZ is, then it kind of becomes predictable and just another dark-side of humanity ride. Then its appreciated for just what it is without comparing it to the original. I guess next, they'll let ICE-CUBE make a remake, or better yet JORDAN PEELE.

Like u I had a dad that let me watch scary movies and such , but my first Halloween was the original 1978 , but when this one came out and I saw it I was hands down the best Halloween EVER and I still feel that way, I love the blumhouse remakes but still this one is so intense , I can watch it constantly. Ty for the review , keep up the good work !

I really liked 2007 Zombi Halloween. Great background on your Mike and interesting take on him not being supernatural but enormous. It was more brutal than the original.

I’m not a heavy movie critic , I guess I’m easy to please I don’t know but I thoroughly enjoy the rob zombie remakes. I can see fans passionate of the franchise not liking the fact they know WHY Michael snaps, instead of being left wondering. We see why Michael is a psychopath in robs remakes, I think if it was based off just a random character instead of it being a remake for Michael, it would be more appreciated. The brutality in his kills though in the remakes are remarkable.

I throughly enjoyed this take on Halloween. It was truly fresh in an era of remakes. I was concerned at first because it was Rob zombie but I think because carpenter gave its blessing he wanted to give the movie some justice. Now the second Halloween I’m not gonna mention but this one I can get with.

H20 was the first Halloween movie that introduced me to the Character, but being a White/Rob Zombie fan first, and then after seeing House of 1000 Corpses when I was 19… I just love Rob Zombie as a filmmaker and artist. This was an absolute savage take on Michael Meyers, definitely what the franchise needed, and maybe it wasn’t meant to be cannon, maybe it was just, in the grand scheme of things, meant to make Michael Meyers scary again. It worked. Love the videos man, the cringe intros give me life.

This movie has two versions, the Theatrical and Directors cut, one difference is Dr. Loomis in the Directors cut is a lot more sympathetic and seems upset that he wasn’t able to help Michael

Also the hideous sexual assault scene that caused the escape as opposed to him attacking the police, which was a much stronger scene and really showcased Michaels strength and brutality early on. Michael ripping out the officers throat with his bare hands was a great visual effect. I love Rob Zombie but the sexual assault scene was just unnecessary, all in the name of shock value I think. I definitely preferred the more sympathetic Loomis too!

First time I watched Halloween was in early 80’s. Scared the ever livin $h1t out of me as a kid. I couldn’t go outside my house alone at night for quite a while. That said, Zombies version is the absolute best for me. The movie is so raw & I like that Michael was so effin physically huge in this, just adds to it. I watched Halloween Kills last night & it was good, like you said not the worst one. It was funny hearing the audience cheering at each kill & some of the sounds the girls would make on some of the gory scenes. 🎃🤡

To be honest Rob Zombies halloween movies are a guilty pleasure. Infact one thing the movies did right was how to bring the character into the modern day right. That is get rid of what's trending and go down to bare knuckle bones.

The mistake this movie made was adding a motive and humanity to Michael. The lack of motive, emotion and humanity made the 78 Michael so scary, unique and mysterious. You barely saw what he looked like underneath his mask, his eye-holes black due to the lighting. In the Rob Zombie movies, you know from the beginning that he has reasons to kill, which in this case are a troubled family and bullying. The problem is that this doesn't make him stand out. A human motive is what drives most murderers and actual serial killers of the real world. A killer that doesn't have a motive like that, and kills for seemingly no reason at all is just way more effective.
