Rob never disappoints, whenever i need my spirits lifted this is my go to channel. The guy's a class act and an awesome teacher. He does a genuine service to humankind, all cool info and no bull@#$%, no scams, no angles like so much of the rest of the internet. Ive found a few more channels that are as honest and informative, but his was the first and still my favorite. People like Rob and Sabine Hossenfelder and Bob Duhamel have given me hope for the human race and an education i could never afford. THANKS SO MUCH

Absolutely! After 20 some years of playing, he's the ONE person that I've consistently learned new things from (sure, there's always something to improve on and I'm FAR from the best drummer, but to learn something completely new to me)

As more of an aggressive punk/metal style drummer, I LOVED watching this tutorial. I've always loved that straight polka style beat (the skank beat) with crazy ride patterns. Thanks Rob!!!

I just wanna say thank you! Im mainly a keys player but have been taking drum lessons for about a year now but have been thinking for a LONG time about this and would check KZbin a couple times a year to find there was never any thorough lessons to the fundamentals of how to actually play shout music grooves. No one ever explained it throughly. Then I check today again and this videos out and has been out for a few months now. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to sit down and dig into all of this!

Must admit I had not of the "shout grove". Gospel music not being such a big thing in Australia. However, as usual this lesson is built on such great fundamentals, it is really useful and applicable. The bell variations are great. And the discipline of the kick snare is super. Keeping it simple but cool as always Rob! Love it.

I'm just a novice drummer but I've been working on One Way Out lately by the Allman Bros. I believe this shout groove is at the core of that tune. Yes, no, sort of?

Pretty much. It’s slower than most shout grooves, but it’s the same basic idea. I hear playing like this in a lot of music and have for a long time, like since the beginning of jazz. Speed it up, slow it down…same beats.

I love that tune and haven't heard it in a while, but I feel like the ride pattern kinda goes back and forth between the 8th notes and 16th notes carrying the song, and they have a slight swing/shuffle to them. I haven't listened to that song critically, but that variance in time keeping on the ride might actually be due to the fact that the Allmans would play with 2 drummers at once.

So sick Rob. I love you and your drumming brother. You coming outta Toronto? If so it’d be cool if you had some kind of drum gathering/meet n’ greet. I’m in Cambridge just down the street. Anyways bro, praise God, in the name of Jesus.
