Man you have to be ungodly good to play the blues with such a clean guitar tone most players even some of the legends cant pull if off. They sound amazingn but if their tone was this clean they would sound lackluster. With a tone this clean there is nowhere to hide but this is what makes Robben a legend . Super clean tone with super clean execution while sounding completely organic and effortless . Very smooth and relaxed sounding . Tight execution with a loose relaxed feel . Perfect example of tight but loose . No robotic muscle memory going on here .

I hope Robben Ford continues to play his guitar long after he's dead. 2000 years from now I still would love to hear him play. Such a gifted individual and down to earth, meek guy, very comfortable teaching as well as playing. A wonderful player and I imagine a wonderful human being as well.

He is so good that it’s terrifying. The guy could sit there and just melt faces with flashy solos given his technique, but instead plays Pentatonix the modifies to ensure there’s no notes that are even slightly dissonant, while engaging in moral inner change and modified bebop lines in addition to chromatic stuff to create tension in a way that it’s meant to be created where every note is totally deliberate. The guy doesn’t feel this way around and simply knows exactly where to go depending out he is in his head and it’s totally second nature. It’s absolutely remarkable. No wonder Miles Davis asked him back after he left the band. That’s not something miles really Is known for. That is to let other musicians know that he respects the hell out of them. Interesting thing about guys like Ford in Carrollton is they get better as they get older. In my opinion he’s so much better player now than he was 10 and then he was absolutely amazing. It blows my mind. I honestly believe that you won’t be able to appreciate this guy as a musician Until you’ve gotten all of your Stevie Ray Vaughan licks, BB King Albert King, Clapton Joe Walsh Jimmy page, Basically once you figure out what all the best blues and blues rock players deal, after a while you realize that very few of them follow the cords that closely and make all the changes like a jazz player. Frampton would do it but not nearly at the same level as guys like Ford, Carlton, Billy Connors In the other fusion cats. Other guys are Eric Johnson, any great Travis picking country player of course Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel he’s not necessarily country player that plays that style, Jerry Donahue, Allan Holdsworth etc. surprisingly when you listen to a lot of the early Van Halen records Eddie is incorporating lots of diminished/altered dominant skills such as symmetrical patterns like whole half or half whole In the whole tone. People tend to focus on tapping and all that parlor trick stuff that we listen to solos like the one in so this is love or when push comes to shove, you realize he’s an absolute genius and people often like him for totally wrong reasons. Obviously his tone and his innovations are reasons to like him, but he’s playing at least in the early years is so much deeper than that. He had a true freestyle and never plays Street rock ‘n’ roll lyrics RNs unpredictable notes. Kind of like a combination of Holdsworth, Jeff Beck and Lots of the 70s fusion guys.,, Anyways I’m off track, if you’ve been playing a long time and you’re looking for something a little more interesting stuff you’ve been listening to your entire life really get into this guy, Larry Carlton, Michael Landau, Steve Lukather what time of year

tpap- you express all too well Robben's genius & ways he speaks music from his being to us fortune ones who were blessed to have found in his brilliant dynamic world of harmonics like an angel glorifying the One & Only~ what a true artist as you described so eloquently & precisely, thank you. I really enjoyed your share, it is one of the best descriptions I ever read all over KZbin of an attempt to put Robben's artist gift & relentless striving to reach for the Heavens - into mere words.

It's really gracious for Robben (and other pros) to dedicate their time to help us less knowledgeable guitarists overcome the confusion and intimidation that needlessly holds us back in our endeavor to understand Jazz chord voicings, scales, and phrasing and transcend the minor pentatonic Blues "box" we have locked ourselves into. (Although it still ain't nothin' but The Blues!)

Are you really thanking THE Steven Seagal, movie ,martial artist guy.?? I really hope I’m missing something here. Seagal is a terrible guitar player. Pathetic. There are not words.. His brother used to come down to the guitar-shoppe in Laguna Beach late 1990s to buy Things for his brother Steven. I haven’t read the previous comments real carefully, but if this guy is thanking Steven Seagal for some kind of musical achievement, then I can’t hardly speak, What an idiot he is.. his reputation amongst martial artist is really clear and unquestionably questionable, big bully! But anyone who has listened to him play guitar can only vomit. Big bully doesn’t work here. Sorry to be such a stinker here but something’s can’t go unsaid! I have to speak up. Puke-arama! Sorry too disturb the great Robben Ford flow here . Definitely one of my favorite players ever , but sometimes you see something that just doesn’t belong and you have the speak up. Go back to the video and forget this crap.🧌🧌🧌 Can’t wait for the feedback on this🤣🤣🤣

I believe this is the best improvisation of Revelation and a Ford embellished & toned rendition of Mos Allison's version of Ellington's "I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues" that has been recorded thus far. (btw- i love the guitar/amp sound in this video) I guess this is what it must be like to have seen him live in a very special performance. I'm just incredulous how his sense of rhythm (like his brothers as well) & harmonics are so dynamically, finely tuned. No pedals - just his straight playing. He claims he isn't very good on acoustic guitar but he must have a feel for the voice of instrument used when he picks up an electric guitar that he is infatuated with. But I heard him play at Yoshi's in Oakland California with a special kind of acoustic/electric combined guitar of some sort that was beyond gorgeous in tone. If someone knows what kind of guitar that was I would appreciate your sharing this info- it starts with a C as I recall...

I didn’t get this video when it first came out, but I sincerely hope that there was some supplemental material included (noting the “bar” count when he was playing). If not, he’s done a WOEFULLY inadequate job at explaining what he’s doing. I don’t find it helpful in the least to have a guy go, “I’m just going to play and hopefully you’ll be able to pick up something.” Then he goes wailing his a** off, so that the only way anyone could pick up anything would be to record the solos and slow them down. I found this super frustrating, and hope that RF has learned a bit about video teaching in the ensuing years….
