In this episode of It’s Called Soccer, Gary Neville and Rebecca Lowe take a deep dive into the current turmoil at Manchester United. With Eric Ten Hag under mounting pressure, they dissect the team's performances, recent defeats, and the controversial VAR decisions, including the Bruno Fernandes red card. Is Ten Hag on borrowed time? The discussion reveals the issues within the dressing room and questions whether the club is headed in the right direction.
Special guest Robbie Keane joins to share his insights on Tottenham’s resurgence under Ange Postecoglou, reflecting on their tactical brilliance against United and offering a broader view on the Premier League title race, featuring Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City. Keane also discusses the impact of players like Dominic Solanke and dives into his journey in football management, providing a unique perspective on coaching and development.
The conversation doesn’t stop there-Cole Palmer's rise to prominence is highlighted, debating whether he is indeed a generational talent after shining in recent fixtures. They explore if Manchester City made a mistake letting him go, and what his success means for the future of the league.

The first half of that performance was okay. Spurs completely destroyed United in all phases of play and across the pitch over 90m

The money spent though. The money spent, the money spent, the money spent. I think it's Ferguson's shadow, it hangs over Old Trafford like a spectre. That makes no sense, but it also makes sense.

This has to be EtH's last season unless he drastically turns it around. This is his team made with the players he wanted, minus Frenkie de Jong.

Yea and they've all played together how many times? With how many different defensive lines ? And midfields? Half of the starting 11 effectively came into the team this season and were late signings as well. Ridiculous the way it's being ignored by so many

No Gary, Southgate would be coming in with absolutely no support, bordering of disdain. The man has shown 0 as a manager, given what he has had available.

I never knew that the contact alone is what refs are expected to make a decision on. I thought it would be the entire event, including how the foul initiated. To me, the slip was a major enough factor to not deem it.a red, but then the ref can't use that reasoning. It's stuff like this that should be communicated clearly to viewers at the time, because I was thinking that's a poor refereeing decision, but it's actually arguably a perfectly made refereeing decision.

This constant "excuse" of the old Trafford pitch being big, it's 10th biggest pitch in the league (I think)... Stop using that as an excuse for playing poorly, for not controlling the space

He wasn’t using it as an excuse. He was hoping United would use it to their advantage. To try and get behind Spurs because Tottenham like to push high up the pitch.

They didn't think he could succeed which is why they went shopping for a manager. Carragher was right, they bottled it in the summer.

There's no denying Man Utd's history BUT let's be honest ! for years now they've been miles away from the club and team they once were. Why are we still talking about them ? A club in decline, they don't represent a threat to anyone, even a championship side would fancy their chances against them.

What 5 transfer windows has Ten Hag been backed? The board did not get new players for Ten Hag for 2 January windows, So straight away your factually wrong. Just because hes been here 5 transfers doesn't mean hes been backed for 5 transfers windows. As for talking about Southgate being united manager, what exactly has he won too prove hes good enough because using a failed time at England isnt good enough

Re the Bruno red card, I thought there was a responsibility for a player to be in control of their body. So regardless of it being a slip, BF had allowed himself to not be incontrol of his body and therefore the challenge was reckless and dangerous. It is a travesty that the Red card has been overturned, had that been a Fulham, Palace, Brentford or Bournemouth player it would never have been overturned.

Seems fitting to have these racial undertones on a USA version of this podcast. Palmer world class after a season and 6 games this. Saka still not world class; has to do it for multiple years, has to do it in a world club, has to do it in the champions league, has to do it away at all big 6 clubs, has to do it while tapping his head and rubbing his tummy at the same time
