I met Robbie at a car dealership sponsor the weekend before the jump, he was signing autographs. It was just me, him, and my BIL and we chatted for 10-15 minutes and he was just another regular guy like us. He signed a photograph for my wife and I can remember it to this day, To Sandie Lucky Landings, it's somewhere in the basement. I worked the day of the jump and slide in to the front row at the landing ramp about an hour before dusk. I knew he'd make the jump but it was sketchy in many ways that can't be seen on this video. I saw it again months later on a NYE PPV and videotaped it, still have the tape also. I hope he's found his peace.

I always go to Vegas every year, and visiting Caesars Palace is always one of my first stops, I always se the parking lot where Robbie started his run from and know just about where the takeoff ramp was located, but now with those newer building added on the other side where he landed, I cannot see anymore that parking garage entrance where he rode into when he landed on the other side......but just seeing actually how far the distance actually was to completly clear the fountains was quite astounding.........

Not really. There's jumps on the AMA national circuit as big or bigger than this that 40 or more riders do lap after lap.

I had a Honda xl 500 and would routinely jump that far on terraced cow pastures, sometimes going in excess of 100 mph. It is a lot easier than it looks.

I'm so glad that his dad was there and shared in his victory as this was the first time it had ever been done successfully, it was Evel's vision but his son Robbie was the one who pulled it off. It has also been attempted by two others, Gary Wells nearly died when he just missed the landing ramp and Travis Pastrana did it in grand style as a tribute to Evel Knievel.

Glad to see Robbie make the jump at Caesars which his father Evel failed to do. But Evel was the First daredevil who had True Grit and lead the way for Robbie.

Evil would have made it if he had a plush rear suspension and travel like on that Honda. It absorbed the impact of the rear wheel hitting and didn't rebound his butt off the bike like the Triumph did to Evil.

At the time this was just unbelieveable. He had to land perfectly, then hit the brakes to avoid the concrete pillar in the underground. I remember clearly thinking this was the most unreal thing I'd ever witnessed. Fast forward to today and guys are routinely doing jumps with double back flips, front flips and soaring through the air for hundreds of feet while doing acrobatics with their bikes. To them this jump is total childs play. Amazing progression for sure.

Pat Backus - that’s why he didn’t do it. I perfectly understand that. I once believed that it was a jump hyped up to be something it wasn’t. However, I came to think differently when I asked myself if I would have tried it using the best equipment out there. My answer was hell no. Would you try it? I didn’t see a line of people who were jumping it next. Remember that this was like 30 years ago.

Been reading posts and everyone is correct if he was on his dads old bike he’d have wrecked no doubt about it! The way he hit the old bike would have kicked the backend up !
