INTERESTING FACTS
According to these videos it would take 17 days to get from Stratford to Sheffield by narrowboat.
I walked 6 miles to get the passing shots I needed.
We had dinner at the Graduate, which is where the last photo of Lou and Maeve was taken.
The video was filmed on the 23rd June using an iPhone 8 plus.

Outstanding videography! I love the artistic editing… just the right amount of high speed & slow motion… they are like music videos. Thinking back, I recall that your first videos were a bit “rough.” Since I had just finished watching all of Cruising the Cut’s 260-odd videos (and David was a professional newscaster & editor) the change in style was a bit of a jolt. But this vlog shows how much your videography has improved and I think your vlogs are now just as good as David’s, though in your own distinct style. Keep up the great work!

I will miss this series of adventures, but in the end it was all about getting Lou's new home to Lou's home. That is done, and that adventure is over, time for a new adventure. It was an excellent series and I hope to see you do something like it again, I enjoyed seeing you cover parts of the canal that you had already done, but with the addition of what you had learned, and what you wanted to cover better the first time.

Hi Robbie. Been a subber for a while. Just wanted to say thank you for taking your time to make these videos showing your narrowboat journey. I'm pleased to say I put an offer on a narrowboat 3 days ago and it was accepted today and I blame you (And maybe CC) entirely 😆. Yeah, I was thinking of a sailaway, but the more I think about it. Do I really want to spent the next 5 years camping in a half finished boat. and do I want to spend the next 5 years working on it. Think I might just enjoy it more if I buy a used boat. So if you or any of the crank-it crew has seen any good, cheap boats, in the 45' to 55', let me know... but don't post them here... don't want everybody beating me to it :)

Thanks for another great video. I always enjoy your videos and the series moving Lou’s boat has been really good. I’m selling my boat after buying it less than a year ago and spending a fortune on it, not internally but doing all the jobs highlighted on the survey and installing a great electrical system and solar so I wouldn’t have anything to worry about. I’ve also had a full repaint. I’m not sure what your friend’s looking for but it will be on Great Haywood boat sales in a couple of weeks (when I can drag myself away! The purchase price plus the work leaves me a massive £10k down so someone will get a great buy. Check it out but it may be a bit boring for you. Think Minimalist’s younger sister or brother! It’s called Sylvan Spirit and I love it but I need something bigger as it’s only 45 foot and I have three dogs 😁. Thanks again for the video.

Hey Robie, for sure visit the Harbour, nearly any part is intresting. You can go through the " Speicherstadt" by a small touring boat, I believe its worth the money. A must ( for a tourist) is a visit to the red light district "Repperbahn". There is always something to look for. And there are many little clubs and Bars also. Near by is the "Karoviertel" its not redlight, more Pubs and Bars to hang out. If you like to meet for a Drink contact me via Facebook (Stephan Kluge). Have fun on your Trip!

Ahh, nearly forgot this... if you like to see a pearl of the Buildings we have here just visit the "alten Elbtunnel". Its closed for trafic in the nightime, and its impressive in many ways. When you go down dont use the lift, take the stairs and have a good look the way down. If you arived on the opposite side, go upstairs and you have one of the nicest views on Hamburg and the Harbour. @CallmeRogerRoger
@CallmeRogerRoger 5 жыл бұрын
Actually, Robbie, you got it just right the first time on the water displacement. Any boat displaces it's weight in water. So if your boat weighs 75% of that of another boat, you boat would displace 75% of the water the other boat displaces. Let's make it easy and play with some numbers...Let's say that it takes 50,000 gallons to fill the lock and that your boat displaces 7,500 gallons and the other boat displaces 10,000 gallons (yes, I realize that these numbers are way off - just an example). When you fill the lock (locking up) with your boat, 42,500 gallons of water will be "used" to fill the lock. The other boat would require 40,000 gallons. Yes, when you both pull out of the lock the water rushes in, but it is displaced out when you lock down (which is when the water is really "used" or lost down canal). When your boat pulls into a full lock (locking down), you displace your 7,500 gallons and the lock is then filled with your boat and 42,500 gallons of water. The larger boat would displace 10,000 gallons from the lock, leaving 40,000 gallons. Once you close the gate, the volume is fixed. The big boat used less water locking down. (No water is "used" locking up.) This is why the Falkirk wheel and the Anderton boat lift are still balanced when there's only a single boat in play. The boat and the "lock chamber" weighs the same as a chamber filled with water. Bottom line, once the gate is closed, the heavier boat shares the lock with less water. So your first thought was right on target. (I'm sure you simply don't care at this point of this rambling explanation.) :-)
@RobbieCumming
@RobbieCumming 5 жыл бұрын
Ha ha no I do care! I suppose the owner of the trip boat didn’t realise the difference as we were both locking up. Anyway! Thank you for this, much appreciated! 8^)

Hi Robbie. I'm returning to Ireland late next year to buy a small river cruiser to live/work on. Probably 4-5 berth as it's just me. Then I hope to trade up to a narrow boat a year or two after so I can have a decent size work area on it. Any advice to offer? Thank you.
@RobbieCumming
@RobbieCumming 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! In terms of choosing thr right boat - if that’s what you’re asking - my advice would be to seek out ‘experts’ and listen to what they have to say, but ultimately use that to form your own opinion and go with your gut. But yeah it’s going to be your home so choose a boat that you just fall in love with for whatever reason, because there is always going to be something that requires fixing and money needed to spend so at least if you love it enough you’ll be happy to go through any difficulties that lie ahead. Good luck and keep on cranking 8^)

I thought RVing was complicated, but NarrowBoating seems to be much more involved. The number of locks that must be navigated to get through the canals are just too much for my liking. Granted I'm old and that has a lot to do with it. The electrical, mechanical and general care of the boat seems to be a 24/7 on going process. Keeping supplied with petrol, coal, water and emptying the Lew are other big concerns. I never see any police presence on or near the canals. Crime seems to be more than reported on these Vlogs. I was going to rent a Narrowboat back in 2013 with my older son thru a time share exchange. After looking into it I decided not to as there was too much to learn in such a short period of time and I didn't want to hold people up at the locks, nor did I want to bang up the boat. I guess I'll just take a tourist boat when the time comes. Happy boating. Be safe.

Good points there Stephen, sounds like you know a lot more than some of the people that hire boats and just crash about everywhere and zoom past moored boats without any care. Yes there is more to it than meets the eye but at the same time there shouldn’t be any rush, you’re going at 2-4mph so you can learn at your own pace I think. 8^)

I think the beats headphones are fake imitation ones.. People who steal for a living snatch them then realise they are fake and drop them in the nearest bin.

Why Robbie did you charge her money for helping , I would have done it for free ? You knew she couldn’t do it alone , ! Sorry but came on a woman alone, Knowing she wanted nothing from you only help because she wasn’t able to tackle it alone , , And then asked her for money, proberly she didn’t have ! ! she didn’t want anything from you , being a man ,sorry but I don’t understand . Yes you helped out for a fee ! sorry not good ! Maybe it’s time for her to be on solid ground , then she would no longer be reliant on people to help her , frankly I am a tad disgusted that you charged her , sorry buts that’s how I feel . I would have been hurt ! But hey maybe because I am cherished and had no need for others to help me for a cost ! I know full well well my husband a police officer would certainly done it for free , knowing I would have said yes do it not worrying about time .if should take longer then so be it !

I’m not sure what you expect from me Elizabethann? You seem to have a strong opinion on what I should be expected to do based on my gender? Are you saying I should work for free just to be chivalrous? Or do you want me to devalue my work just to make myself look good on KZbin? I’m just a person trying to get through life like anyone else, and life unfortunately costs money that’s the truth.
