My birthplace! Glad that you showed the monstrous carbuncle that is the multi-storey car park in the background in the first minute of the video. The shops in Chelmsford are decent, and it's a pretty safe place with good schools etc. Main issue is that it could be anywhere, really, like so many places in the south.
@Reddsoldier2 ай бұрын
And whenever you bring up that there's absolutely nothing going on there or anything really of note to see/do people's first answer is always "oh but it's close to London". Which IMO is just not good enough an excuse. Also, 45 minutes and realistically almost 30 quid per person to begin to get somewhere in my books isn't "close". It also doesn't excuse having to pay London prices for basically everything whilst the variety, quality and convenience of said things is always worse. I think the issue with so much of the South East is that a lot of the people there haven't properly experienced life anywhere else in the UK so they don't realise that actually its really crap.
@deepprobe6187Ай бұрын
@Reddsoldier Rubbish! It's about £82 return to London for a family of 2 adults and 2 children, off peak. £54 if all are travelling together with groupsave. Chelmsford is good for families. It has two top grammar schools, two private primary schools and one year 1 - 8 independent school with boarding. There is also Anglia Ruskin Uni (with a med school) and the world renowned Writtle University College for Husbandry. BBC Essex, Heart Essex and City Sound Radio also operate out of there.
@ReddsoldierАй бұрын
@@deepprobe6187 That's still a LOT of money! And that's before you're counting in eating out, gift shops, and potentially venue/event prices. Elsewhere, I'd hate to break it to you, it's the cost of a bus ticket or parking and petrol. Aside from schools though, is it actually that good for families? Aside from Writtle College, Basically every major population centre in the UK has proximity to at least one good school, Southend of all places has 4 grammar schools for example. But as someone without a family I can't believe I have to be the one to say that there's more to a good upbringing than good schools. Chelmsford aside from the pool, the ice rink and the cinema has nothing going on locally except that market they throw up on weekends and a couple of nicer shops now Bond Street is all done up. From a kid's perspective it's pretty grim that the only things you have to do are things that cost money. Again, you don't have to look far out of the South East to see that places that aren't much bigger than Chelmsford do a lot more with what they've got. Towns like Winchester, York or even Peterborough of all places have far far more going for them with the added benefit of not having to be so far in the capital's shadow that everyone pretends they live there and grins and bears £7 pints and poor, but expensive attempts to be fancy whilst everything worth doing costs money or costs money to get there. I shudder to think what it'd be like to grow up on that Beaulieu park estate rather than Billericay where I actually grew up which doesn't have much going on either, but at least most of that "not much" was free to enjoy and close. Being able to freely go over the woods and play until dark with my mates in the summer holidays was fantastic, and my younger brother whose now around that age also enjoys similar.
