I actually have one to replace before winter hits. Not a bad run, though, 4 years. I think I just got a bad one.

They're vulcanized rubber and it's normal. These are fabricated with pellets and a "vehicle". The vehicle helps the pellets dissolve and shape into the mold. After release the vehicle slow evaporates - hence the "rubber" smell. As is evaporates the unit shrinks - sometimes becoming brittle. With old tires it's called "Dry rot". 🤓🖖-KJ

I think the most important part of using uniseals is to download the hole size chart from your website, print and stick it on the wall. Couple of times, I measured by eye and failed 100%.

Uniseals install easier with lubrication. Make sure to use water. Any oil lubricant will cause the seal to disintegrate.

A cheaper alternative to uniseals: drill slightly bigger hole for a joiner and epoxy into place. Thats how i have built my system - no hassles with leaky uniseals or expensive bulkhead fittings.

In Brazil we also use alternatives, super glue + baking soda or plastic welding. I wish we had a Uniseals in our stores 🥲

I've seen all methods of running pipe through tank walls leak including Uniseals fiberglass & welded. I think it comes down to whatever works best for you.😉👍

When passing through, take the edges off of the pipe, so it's smooth and won't damage the seal. Spray it with food grade silicon. Apply pressure and a bit of English and it will go.

I used uniseals for my setup, and I think I have one uniseal out of many that just doesn’t work. The sludge drain at the bottom of my clarifier doesn’t like the twisting needed to open the valve. I need a better valve system probably.
