@RobbyLayton You need to run a regulator between the new lighting wiring harness and the alternator. Plus you need to make sure you use the proper gage wires for the lighting and any wiring you replaced. Also make sure the measure the resistance of each wire so that it meats the correct parameters for the lights or and if you still have all the wires you pulled out of whiskers you might want to measure all the wiring resistance lvls on them as well. All just to make sure everything you did under the dash is working properly as well. Check your New Lights and your Wiring for Shorts to ground, or your wiring with a power lead that's grounded.

Matt, did you add the limited-slip differential additive to the Bombi's 9-inch? If not the clutches are most likely burnt up. Edit: I got to thinking that you're using an open differential which wouldn't use an additive, but it seems an open diff' wouldn't steer or perform properly in many situations. And I'm no specialist at this so all I can do is wish you luck. lol.

@@delbutler885 nah the wiring is Robbies baby now. Chad could perhaps give some advice. But Robbie did an amazing job to get that dash working first go. If he's got an ammeter up in the cluster I suspect he's seeing some weird things going on if he doesn't have a current shunt at the alternator to feed it and he's running the whole system power up there to get the reading. Aside from that though it's a damn tidy job he gets to make even nicer the second time lol. This isn't dissing Chad in any way just to be clear. I just don't think Robbie will let this beat him after he put so much effort into it the first time around.

I hate wiring…every time a new problem…. Cable are the butches of a vehicle……
@neilfromclearwaterfl8110 ай бұрын
And understanding the technology your working with. If that ammeter uses a built in shunt that requires the charging load to be fed through it then you need cabling capable of carrying that load going both into and out of it all the way from the alternator to the ammeter and back to the battery. On a the typical 32 amp Ford alternator used on older equipment that wasn't that big of a problem but with the newer ones tipping the 100 amp scale then you need a remote shunt for the power to pass through and an ammeter that just reads a low powered signal wire going from the shunt to the dashboard. That's why many today forgo the in-dash ammeter and go with just a voltmeter to show 12.5 to 14/15 volts as Ok and above or below as a problem. Second item is to eliminate the load on the ignition switch and dash wiring by using relays. Generic 40 amp relays are still just about $10 each and only require a few Milli-amps of power to activate and using them tends to make ignition switches in older vehicles last a lot longer along with become much more reliable. For many going with a Painless brand wiring harness for a classic vehicle along with the relay box option relieves a lot of the headaches since you just buy the one that supports the dashboard and number of circuits you need to run and just connect the labeled wires to the battery, starter, alternator, lights, signals, gauges, senders, etc, etc. As the name suggests they do take a lot of the Pain out of the process. Best!

Here's an idea for a new axle: how about a drive axle from a Bombi. Big oil bath differential. Internal band brakes that can be relined protected from snow and ice. Take into consideration how many bombi-like snowcats lasted many decades with that set up. Kind of like they knew what they were doing. Having had experience with external exposed brakes on a tracked vehicle I expected there would be some issues in some snow / ice / temperatures. You knocked it out of the park building the Banana, Morvair and worlds largest off road wrecker but the old snowcats seem to have been designed pretty good right from the start.. Would think there is enough turbulence to throw oil around in that inverted axle diff but the pinion bearings wouldn't be getting the same volume of oil from above. Those aftermarket auto shop sensors for all makes and models seem to be a gamble. OEM often a better bet. Did you know that NASA has a big fleet of 1970's vehicles (cars, trucks, service vehicles, ambulances) that are all mechanical. No ECU's control modules, sensors etc. Old school points distributors, carburetors, etc that can be fixed with a screw driver, pliers (ocaisional claw hammer). Just sayin'.

I know if I ever purchase a beater snowcat that will have to be rebuilt, modified, and painted I will get the Whiskers for the roomy size and add a hemi 5.7 in it and add plenty of fuses to prevent possible wiring harness issues. I would source a similar differential from a military track vehicle like a M113. The military track vehicles are very durable and require very little maintenance. They use large disk brakes to lock each track and we call the steering laterals similar to Matt's Bombi

Carried her to the car. My drawers and jeans were stuck to me with all the blood from keeping pressure on it in my lap. She was my friends fling, a runaway sort. We were all 14 and 15.
