I can personally tell all of you guys. I own this amp and i have to say its awesome. Its tight powerful and heavy. It has a great clean and you can get some dirty blues. Me personally i like a Killswitch Engage tone. I use the Maxon OD808 and this thing is a riff monster.
@12ealDealOfficial10 жыл бұрын
The built in boost is not half bad either. It pushes the signal before the preamp and is fairly lush sounding without being 'too much' where some OD pedals can take some focus out.
@Gravy12557 жыл бұрын
Do you think I could get a thrash tone out of it like Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth.

I've had my 60 watt head for about 7 years and I've never looked back. Easily nails dark blues, rough rock, all the way to metal. I've looked at other amps but nothing has this sound. Plus you can switch the bias from 6L6 to EL34 which is cool. Currently running mine with 6L6s in the matching 4x12

Contrary to what you guys are claiming here (It's just a metalamp), I found that my IRT-Studio can do all the sounds that I need in my coverband, from surf to blues to rock and metal, and without any pedals! I'm just using wah, chorus and delay to taste, the rest of my sound is just the amp. Not only is it very dynamic, but also it is very responsive to different guitars and volume changes (think guitar volume knob halfway on the rhythm channel to get decent cleans, etc.)
@daved23529 жыл бұрын
Chris Bisperink I've pulled a convincing Funk sound from mine through a Mesa Dual Rec cabinet.
@alexandert6968 жыл бұрын
Interested to learn how you get your surf tones without a reverb pedal.
@chrisbisperink39028 жыл бұрын
johno doh the amp has a decent reverb built in. For surf tones I use the clean channel with reverb pretty much cranked. Other than that, you just need the bridge humbucker on your guitar, and a tremolo bridge if you're that kind of player. It sounds convincing enough to me.
@alexandert6968 жыл бұрын
Chris Bisperink Surf tones to me are a huge compromise. A strat is the bare minimum if you dont have a jazzmaster or a jaguar. Then you need a tremolo and a spring reverb to get that rhythm drip. You can kinda get a digital reverb pedal and a delay set on slapback and dial some top frequencies.
@chrisbisperink39028 жыл бұрын
johno doh with the right cab, I'm convinced this amp can do it. The clean channel is quite spanky by itself. If you really want to make it sound big, use 2 in stereo with a good stereo tremolo. And like i said, the built in reverb is quite decent.

@daved23529 жыл бұрын
Alasdair Mackay Agreed, I let my old lecturer loose on mine who is an experienced rock and blues player and he loved it, I think it really opens up into new territories with other cabinets, I'm not keen on the laney cabs but I've run my Ironheart through a marshall 1960 and a Mesa dual rectifier cab and it's awesome. I also switched the 6L6 valves out for EL34's and they sound great too but I'm undecided as to my preference yet.

You guys really managed to dial that amp in very nicely. I had high hopes for the Ironheart when it first came out but in all the demos it sounded so harsh and tinny. @larryshredmonkey11 жыл бұрын
i struggled with the same decision over a while and after lots of testing i went for the laney 60 watt w/ 412 cab. its much better for metal, as the blackstar didnt have enough gain for metal really. but this amp does everything you could ever want. despite what rob says you can totally play blues and normal clean stuff as well as rock and metal and whatever. its an amazing amp, you should definitely get that over a ht100 if you want high gain.

From what I've heard so far, 10 mins in, it sounds great!
@12ealDealOfficial10 жыл бұрын
I've owned my 60w for about four months now. I'm still really happy with it. The breakup is very sweet and raucous, rich, thick, non-washy, and throaty but not boxed-in sounding. Build quality is spectacular. No shaky tubes, very sturdy, convenient handles that are accessible from the top and sides. It's also very loud, but even dimed out, there's no white noise wash in the top end. The push/pull knobs on the eq make a huge difference and aren't just there for show. The clean tone is sparkly and spanky- it projects well, but it's not like a 'Fender clean', there's more lower mids and less treble. The built in digital reverb is serviceable, but nothing too remarkable. The boost feature is very handy even if it's not ideal.

Actually there is a very good reason to choose very powerful power amps: a very cool and clean power amp stage is essential if you're after a sound for Pantera-style metal, thrash, djent etc... In general, you can get an aggressive sound with scooped mids when you have an almost hi-fi setup with plenty of headroom, no compression or saturation whatsoever. That's why digital simulators and solid-state amps are so popular in those genres. A massive valve power amp is another option. :)

I have a River K-Tre and it's a 120watt head. I know Chappers isn't big on having a super clean tone all that often but it really does give you tons of head room. I still gig with mine on about 4 out of 10 on the volume. It's usually the first half of the volume knob that has a great increase in dB, after that it's just driving the amp harder.

I bought the irt60 combo and I love it. it has an awesome clean channel, really full. The rythum channel has a hell of a range of sounds, from blues to metal. What i said about the other amps was in terms of MUSICALITY, sure they all have a certain “sound” and at best can be labelled Metal with some music, but laney at the hands of the right player brings out the MUSIC in Metal! Mind you i am also a great fan of KRANK Rev+ 120 head and cab for different reasons! I would also like to thank you for a great review specially the end with BKP! The Only pickups i use.

Hi I bought the 60W and the 2x12 cab 6 month ago... These are amazing ! It's a High gain but I was really amazed by the crunched sound. So you can do EVERYTHING. The Boost is really usefull : when you want to go to 11 ! ! ! The only problem I have is on the setting on the lead sound with a lot of gain. The bass range sound seems sounding realy dirty. I don't understand why. I have this problem with my guitar with EMG 81, but not on my 7 Strings. You have to try it with your own guitar.

I own the 60W version of the amp and can say that everything the guys are saying is true. You can get great sounds out of it, but only if the watts control is dimed. Everything below sounds fuzzy (in my opinion). I have the dynamics control between 8 and 9 o'clock for a tight bass response and use an equalizer in the FX-loop to turn down the volume in case I want to play in my bedroom.

You should've tuned the guitars, guys... The ML-1 and the ESP Eclipse are not tuned the same and it hurts your ears especially when you're playing some low chords. Anyway, The amp sounds awesome. I totally dig the Laney's, but I'm torn between the Taurus Stomp-Head 4 and Ola's signature Randall Satan. Randall Satan is totally unique all the way around. Yet the Taurus Stomp-Head is completely innovative and much more easily compact to carry and transport and sounds good as well.
