Just wanted to say, I tried all these pedals and I bought the Throttle Box for medium-gain tones. I like the other pedals OK, but the TB does medium-gain tones as well as high-gain and is IMO more versatile than the rest. You can turn the gain down and roll back your guitar volume and get great overdrive, and then start raising levels until you get the overdrive/distortion you need.

The Throttle box is one hell of a pedal. But i think it has a complete built in preamp circuit. Don't quote me on it but i think you could run your guitar directly threw the pedal to the input of your fx loop and use it to bypass your normal preamp. It reminds me of AMT preamp pedals, once you turned the drive up.

I just bought the new mesa boogie throttle box distortion pedal and can't wait to try it with my new E-II M-II neck thru black w/EMG 81's should be fun with the other stuff i bought. I finally bought some stuff... Should sound gr8 through my old 1972 Peavey classic 4x10 scorpions... that amp has never failed me

I have used the Throttle with an Hot Rod 3 and a 4x12. You won´t miss a Rectefire. It even has more buttom end than a Dual Rec. But the big daddys from Mesa are a bit louder ^^ and clean up more nicely.

Cap, I have the flux five, and undervolting it gives it the most amazing, compressed, infinite sustain, can't-make-a-mistake, muff pi-on-acid tone. It happens right before the 9v battery dies. Last battery that died I put it on the multimeter and it measured 6.84 volts. You should develop a dc voltage transformer that daisy chains into those dc power ports so people can have these tones. It could be a stompbox even. You can use my idea!

There are power-supplies that will mimic the battery dying sag effect. I have one, it is the MXR/CAE Bob Bradshaw MC403. Killer power supply. I think the top of the line Voodo Mondo has that feature as well and maybe the Tru-tone 12 spot. Can't remember for sure on those two. But yeah when I was young I played my Ibanez SD-9 Sonic Distortion and Aria AD10 delay straight into a super old Italian tube amp and when the battery was low/dying in the SD-9 it was the most awesome sound ever with a lawsuit Les Paul I had ;-)

I don't think it's an unfair comparison, the purpose of PCB boards is generally a cost cutting measure (although there are some great amps with PCBs). The Hard Wired version requires a more skilled craftsman and a more laborious labor process, along with better quality components. It's a perfect example of what you get when you use cheaper labor and parts to cut costs vs what you get when you simply try and make the best product possible.

Probably the Triple Wreck. The Throttle Box is less of an amp in a box and is more of a high gain pedal with a very wide ranging gain sweep and a mid cut. The Triple Wreck is aiming strictly to emulate a saturated Rectifer tone.

And just to clarify, when I'm talking about the American economy, I'm specifically talking about the guitar gear industry. There are a lot of good small makers of guitars, amps, and pedals scraping along and/or going out of business because of the small margins necessary to make high quality products that people can still afford to buy. I like to support those types of people, and I think others do too.

It's pretty subjective depending on exactly how much any given company is willing to sacrifice. Of course you're right, not a thing wrong with wanting to support US or UK made products, in fact it's a great idea. You do get what you pay for usually. But you have to admit, comparing a Tiny Terror to a Tiny Terror Hard Wired is kind of silly. One has a printed circuit board, the other is a totally different animal. Voiced similarly yes, but the similarity kinda ends there.

might get panned for this but I thought they sounded really bad - flubby bottom and fizzy top end with not that much gain even on the 'high gain' pedals. I suspect it's more to do with the choice of amp though - probably much better pushing something with creamy drive into high gain heaven.

More voltage gives you more headroom while less gives you more gain.

Unfortunately the combi of the camera mic equalizing the volume and the teeny speakers in my laptop are comletely obscuring the difference in the low cut switch on the last pedal. I guess I'll have to leave the house to hear it for myself. =)

American made guitars tend to be more consistent in quality. I have played some wonderful mexican instruments, the korean and japanese guitars tend to be very good and fairly cheap. I own a fender modern player plus telecaster and love it so much (after pickup upgrades)
