This to me looks like it was straight water ran (probably not even distilled) and just years of electrolysis from the dissimilar metals of the housings and irons. This almost certainly would have had a coolant seal failure. I'd definitely want to measure the land between the water jacket and seal groove to make sure there is enough material left. They can sometimes be deceiving there they look sufficiently thick, but are just full of pitting and will crumble at looking at them wrong. For lights I recommend the Snap-On Necklamps, you can wear it around your neck (as the name) or on your head, plus they're super bright.

I've been using the Snap-On Project (ECPRA072GR) light and really like it. USB-C, no modes to flip through, just on/off, adjustable brightness (long press on power button) and adjustable base and a darn strong magnet. I left this under a customer vehicle and they took it off and brought it back once they drove to their facility.

There are no freeze plugs in the rotor housings under the lower intake manifold from the factory. The front rotor is blocked by the lower intake and the rear feeds the stock coolant line for the turbo. It is best to install 20mm freeze plugs in both holes. That way you don't heat the lower intake manifold unnecessarily with hot coolant in the rear housing. The top coolant outlet on the rear iron that was plugged (and then broken off) is the preferred spot to use for feeding coolant to the turbo, I wouldn't plug it.

You probably know this but it might help someone. Around 6 years ago I got a set of rotors for my 13b and they are polished with a buffer wheel, I have rebuilt the engine after 4 years of running and there was hardly any carbon in the engine stuck to the rotors. Any carbon left on the rotors wiped off with a paper towel. Maybe a nice machined rotor face could do the same.

So for good shop lights, just hop on a snapon truck, ask for the specs on the light you like, somehow make it off the truck without buying anything, check the price on that light online and make sure it’s a good price, and you’ll be set. It’s like some brand called streamlight and the snapon guy will give you a lifetime warranty on it. Those lights are friggen tough. One of my coworkers had one run over by a trucks 6 times before it broke. Super bright and grab some rechargeable batteries and you’re set. The little pen light only cost like 40. I know this sounds like an add of some sort but as a mechanic this light was way better than any other autozone light.

I have a 86 NA sports and its on 87000 km (54k miles) stock untouched motor. It sat for 10-15 years, a year before I brought it and when I had it I only drove it every weekend or so. It ran perfectly no issues but when I first got it the coolant system looked disgusting so I drained it flushed and thought it was good to go. Had the car serviced just so I could get it checked over for any issues I need to address. The following weekend after the service I started it up and let it warm up in the driveway and then when backing out of the driveway there was coolant everywhere (Waterpump leaking from the weep hole) so I replaced the water pump and went to start it and had trouble starting it. Tried a couple basic things and nothing worked so sent it back to the shop to be looked at and that’s when I was told it’s lost comp on both rotors. 25 psi all around and 28 on one face of one of the rotors. This baffled me as from my understanding, for what seemed to be a healthy engine with not even a single issue. To lose comp on both rotors seemingly out of no where is just wrong. But after seeing this video I’m wondering if it’s because it spent most of its life sitting being on only 87000 km (54k miles)I’ve got a couple things I’ve been told I could try to start it but if none work I’m thinking of pulling it out myself and rebuilding it myself as I don’t have much money and learning to build engines especially rotary is my dream. I should note I’ve never done an engine rebuild before so I’ll be taking an extreme amount of time to get it perfectly and educating myself before trying anything. Your videos will be extremely helpful. But yeah if anyone’s got any feedback on any of that it’d be much appreciated as I’ve got no clue what happened and neither does anyone I’ve talked to so far : /

Also springs on the old engines are crap, esp the corner seals they flatten instant almost :P So do your self a favour and replace all seals and springs with same you would use on and Rew engine. And go 2 piece seals as well and don't go it has to be stock Turbo 2 seals. They suck and can't handle any boost or power at all. Glad you decided to split the engine. My first thought was split the engine as it's been sitting for way way too long. Looking forward to seeing what you will do with this car :)

On the cracked dash, i worked for a yard that sold old 70s impala caprice stuff. The dash pod around the gauges would commonly crack all to hell. I could repair the cracks by stitching them shut with a hot flat blade screwdriver. If i lined up the pieces really good and stitched in the back, the crack would basically disappear to the human eye and be strong. Looks like the kind of plastic used in that dash is the same/similar kind lol just a neat way to save those original parts so they can live on. Id stab jnto the plastic along the crack like little stitches and then smear the excess plastic back into the stitch mark going across the crack

I’ve been wanting to put an FC rx7 engine in my rotary pickup so this is really interesting and informative, I’m swapping my engine because I hear early 13b engines have a bad housing design for coolant.

When you broke that part with your pliers, you where using the backwards, when applying pressure it will naturally hold tight. Also recommend the knipex plier wrench

I would have used a razor blade knife to cut off the rubber first. Idk what was going on there. Lol

So for lighting harbor freight sells nice single L.E.D bulb lights that can chain together. I use them all the time since they have a chain and can hang under hoods and on ceilings too.
