+qazme anyone can buy a rack and place servers, routers, switches and whatnot in it. The custom built 3-rotor or the 4 rotor coming up is truly impressive.
@qazme8 жыл бұрын
+Axel Van Uffelen - and anyone could buy it off him for the right money, or have someone build it, just like people can buy servers. Not to mention it's VERY likely his server room costs more than any of his cars do. Like I said "geek in me" is more impressed with it than a car. Not to mention there's a lot more going on in that room that just bolting down racks and throwing servers and switches in there. IT is a black art especially the surrounding supporting of it all.
@Axel-ro7dn8 жыл бұрын
qazme Though 3-rotor RX7's are not mass produced. I'm not talking about price here (don't get me wrong, it obviously costs an arm and a leg) but these server racks could be bought, installed and set up within a day if you wanted to. That RX7 is unique and a real beauty
@qazme8 жыл бұрын
Axel Van Uffelen that's why I said "the geek in me" and not the "car guy". I'm not into RX7's either so that would be another reason. ;-)

We built a server room some years ago and ended up with an extra Big Red Button Of Doom. We would randomly put it in the worst places where it could get bumped and attached a strobe, red light and siren to it. It ended up right above elevator buttons, door bells, random desks and it's final stint was next to a push red button for service sign which had another sign under it saying push in case of emergency. It's last day was when by happenstance a person guessed the wrong button as a real fire truck stopped in the parking lot because reasons. Poor lady was visibly shaken. Yep. Had to ask them to come in and make sure she was ok. Never saw that button again. Thanks for the memory recall. Good times.. Good times...

How long did you have your business before you were able to move into that location or one of a similar size? Also how many employees do you have right now? I just joined a similar start-up in Philadelphia, hopefully I'll be in the main office when we actually get an office seeing as I'm the first person these two brothers hired. Happy to see how successful this kind of company can be.

You guys are much more organized and formal than we are. I really like your repair stations. Sometimes just having separate mice, keyboards, and monitors is just better than having a KVM. i know its a fire alarm pull station cover however it works really well to protect against unwanted EPO. when someone lifts up the lid it has a siren buzzer that scares the brakes off you. so it makes sure you really need to EPO then you lift that thing off.

I would love to work for Rob. Not because I am a fanboy or anything but just the way his company is structured. This is exactly what I want to do for a living. I don't wanna work for a huge multi billion dollar corporation were they don't care about their workers but a company the size of Computer Works were they actually care about customer service and their quality of workplace. I mean having a really cool boss who has a similar interest in cars and rotary engines is a plus. I worked for both Staples and Best buy as a sales/computer technician and they usually don't treat their employees that great. Maybe i will apply in a year when I am done my schooling in Computers System technician if they are hiring since I don't live far but to bad I am on the other side of the boarder ):

This is really cool, to see a walktrough to an office like this. Im glad to hear you keep your employees in mind, a happy worker is a good worker, keep them well supplied and fed and they will do their best! A workplace should feel like home and your fellow employees should be like a second family. The reason why some businesses fall into the ground is due to employees being stressed out, given too many tasks to handle or just treated badly.

I wanted to mention, you guys should check out the 21:9 aspect ratio monitors. LG makes a great one where you can run four simultaneous 4:3 monitors from four different inputs on one screen. I'm a software engineer and I have two, one on top of the other, so I can run a bunch of VMs full screen at the same time.
