Dude imagine I might be able to help you with something! I worked with those pesky quick-connectors for many years and learned a trick or two from the pros; 1. you need a special tool to cut the tube straight and without squishing it at all. If the tube is not cut straight or is ovaled in the cross-section it will NOT seal properly and/or may not hold pressure (i.e. fall out) 2. Push the locking ring all the way open before inserting the tube or else the teeth will scratch the tube going in, wearing it down. A worn tube will not stay put 3. After you insert the tube until it bottoms out pull the locking ring all the way closed. If you don't, it will definitely NOT stay put. 4. Maybe the most important part (which I saw you were missing) there is a clip that you place behind the locking ring, it looks like a plastic C-clip that is there to make sure the locking ring does not budge. I can't tell you how many leaks and problems we had due to those missing over the years! 5. Once everything is in place, do NOT let the tube move/rotate! If you have too long tubes that dangle it WILL wear inside the connector and it WILL start failing! When it fails the only way to fix it i to start over by cutting of the worn part of the tube, starting from step 1. Good luck!

Excellent comments there! 😎👍 The only thing I can add is that when assembling the fittings, with the hoses pushed right in one should use a marker to mark the fully in position - that way if it starts coming out ther will be space between the fitting and the mark on the hose. Doesn't help if it's damaged hose leaking, but if there'sa gap, ther IS a problem that needs addressing, even if it isn't the actual problem being chased down.
@socks24412 жыл бұрын
we use that same fitting at work for manometers, we only use them to read pressures of about 3 psi. i certainly wouldnt trust these connectors on something as important as this car, or for 30psi. edit: actually come to think of it we have a few machines that use these fittings connected directly to the main compressor line, which is at about 100 psi.. i dont understand how a long length of that tubing or that connector seal with that much pressure but they seem to.

@@socks2441 They're a standard fitting in industrial machinery that uses compressed air, but there may be a difference in the quality of the fittings and hoses/lines, as Rob suggested - oh, and the quality of the fitter 😉🤣 Oh, forgot in the earlier post, but while 3/8" and 10mm may seem close enough, ~ 0.5mm/0.020", there's just that little bit of compromise in the effectiveness of the gripping mechanisms if the wrong size(s) are used.

Hey Rob, I deal with those air fittings and hoses all day at work. While it can be a bad fitting, 90% of the time it's the way that the end of the hose is trimmed. Get a razor blade and make sure that the end of the hose is perfectly cut and smooth. That can save you some troubleshooting headaches down the road.

I know it's counter intuitive to racing but if you have a gear too tall for the engine the trick is to run a heavy flywheel . it will keep the inertia of the engine revving when it gets a load on it like with a tall gear and push thru to get the car moving and once it's going it will help keep it moving the only down side is the engine winds down slower then with a light flywheel. it's the same reason the old battle boat cars with 6 cylinder engines had massive flywheels it's cheap and it works very well

Food for thought. You do have the capability of machining cap off plugs for turbos/intake pipes that you can tap and plug an air chuck to for boost leak tests. Spray around with a soapy bottle instead of risking engine harm.
@Cjbarker22 жыл бұрын
The turbo inlet is a boost leak if the engine isn’t running. Unless you’re telling him to cap off the turbo inlet, there’s no real benefit to that. However, that’s not a terrible idea
@ClarkBark142 жыл бұрын
@@Cjbarker2 I normally pressurize the system at the charge pipe where it connects to the turbo. Depending on how your valves/rotors whatever are clocked, air will get through unless you plugged the exhaust, but that's not really necessary. If you have large shop air system, you can just crank a regulator up enough for the system to be pressurized despite what creeps through the engine.

I was pushing for a race last summer and my car wasn't making boost. Ended up being the map sensor hose had melted on the exhaust so the MAP signal was just totally whacked, and the turbo was struggling to build boost. I ended up overspeeding the turbo and wiping out the bearings. Just swapped it out and there's like .030" of endplay in it haha. All's well that ends well! But couldn't agree more, tuning through boost leaks is a mistake.
