While out at the Volta a Catalunya, Jon headed to the pro cyclist haven that is Girona. While there he happened to run into Lotto-Jumbo rider Robert Gesink returning from training. Gesink kindly allowed us to have a look at his training bike, check it out!

Great idea to do a training bike video. Actually since you (GCN) guys are in Spain often, and pros are there often you could do more of these reviews. It's great to see a pro rider of Gesink class riding bike with clinchers, saddle bag and mini pump.

Love the XR4! Also love that waxed cotton bag + leather toe strap solution for the tools / spare inners. Totally brilliant way to almost cancel out the bad aesthetic vibe of a saddle bag.

Thanks, Jon, and I like that full-size, frame-mounted pump, a nod to riding in real life on real roads, for sure. And it makes me wonder what a race bike would look like--wheels and gear and such--if the pros had to fix their own flats.

Interesting that today's pros train on clinchers. When I raced in Southern California in the '70's, I was the only guy training on clinchers: most racers in the area, even the novices, trained and raced on tubulars. I went to clinchers to save money. As I recall, Michelin made a good high pressure 700c tire and there was one good rim, which was probably much heavier than today's clincher rims (and heavier than typical tubular rims in those days). I couldn't keep up using two clincher wheels: had to resort to a clincher back/ tubular front setup to keep from getting dropped! Saved a lot of money, though. Back then, most clinchers were 27x1 1/4 (?) that took wheels of a different diameter than tubular wheels, making it a pain to switch back and forth for racing and training, whereas 700c is the same diameter as tubular.

Great video and a truly lovely bike but hey, a couple of weeks ago, you were saying (I THINK it was you) that you didn't like Bianchi's Celeste Green . . . what's happened? And, as regards the freewheel sound, the overwhelming consensus of opinion on the issue last week was that most of us like our freewheels to be as quiet as possible. That said, keep up the good work!

Question for GCN TECH Hi Jon, in the process of degreasing bearings and applying grease after drying, would residues of the degreaser still dissolve the grease? Or do you need to rinse with water after use of the degreaser? (I always do that). Cheers, keep up the good work!

Patrick Hance GCN don't do reviews, they look at pro bikes and they do "first look" videos where they basically tell you what the manufacturer has to say. Bianchi aren't a GCN sponsor so I doubt they'd do a video about it. The aria is a beautiful bike and in reality is good enough for anyone, the pros choose the top of the line models for the marginal gains.
